1 HUM Project Tyler Echols Southern New Hampshire University HUM 100: Perspectives in Humanities Daniel Henke Dec. 11 th , 2022
2 HUM Project 1. Describe the work in detail. Consider the following: a. Where did you see the work? b. What elements or characteristics stand out to you? The Pyramids of Giza are in Egypt, on Giza Plateau just west of the city of Cairo. The characteristics that stand out to me are the massive limestone blocks that were used for the construction of the pyramids and the overall triangular shape of the pyramids. 2. Describe the purpose of the work. Consider the following: a. What do you think the creator intended to express? b. Were they successful? The creator intended to express a monumental burial for the Pharaohs. Something that looks good from afar as well as up close. This was done purposefully because the Pharaohs were the ones closet to the Gods, to the ancient Egyptians. Not only was the purpose to house the dead pharaohs but for their goods too: gold, food, mummified animals, so they needed something big that would house all these things. Each Pharaoh designed their own pyramid, so this also showed how powerful they were while they were still alive. They were very successful at the finished results of the pyramids. 3. Use the work to explore how acts of creative expression impact and are impacted by the people and situations that surround them. Consider the following: a. What contributions does the work selected make to continuing a dialogue about that culture and the importance of its works?
3 The ancient Egyptians were masters at their craft. Their math and creativity still have people today saying they were advanced for their times. The pyramids of Giza are the main tourist attraction of Egypt. 4. State questions you have after thinking deeply about this work. What more do you want to know regarding the following? a. The relationship between culture and expression: What is the relationship between the possible intent of the creator and your own interpretation of its meaning? b. Explain how your values have shaped and are shaped by your expression and that of others. The intent of the creator and my own do does not align with each other. By looking at the pyramids I would think that it was built for a house for the pharaohs or where they had worshiped their Gods. But they are similar because looking at them you knew someone or something important had been inside at some point in time. My values are shaped by my emotions and often I have to take my time to build upon that. I don’t dive into something; I figure out how it makes me feel and go from there. Evaluating and appreciating what is all around me. 5. Explain how you would approach answering these questions: a. What would you study about this work that might address the questions you stated? b. Where would you find information to address the questions? Next, draw conclusions about how the work you selected relates to the humanities:
