Public Sector vs. Nonprofit Sector Assignment
Introduction
The public and nonprofit sectors services provide a significant number of real-life services. Some of these services are exclusive to either the public sector or the nonprofit sector, but other services are provided by both. The following paragraphs will showcase a few examples
of legitimate services that are offered solely by the public sector or the nonprofit sector (
and those services that are supplied by both sectors
). Other purposes include the following:
Provide an explanation that offers insight into how both sectors contribute to the betterment of society at large.
Provision of answers that lend support to both sectors serving the public in a different capacity, or would it be best to offer identical services? Public Sector—Services Shittu (2020) claimed that the concept of “public service means the activities and services
done in any government capacity...for the benefit of the general public” (Shittu, 2020). Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department patrolling city streets and providing citizen protection against crime and violence could be considered one service example. Other examples may include the following:
Cleaning and general upkeep of the public park system
Building of infrastructure (e.g., roads, highways, bridges) that improve traffic congestion
and enhance movement of people.
Public transportation services (e.g., bus, light rail, subway train)
Public education services (e.g., K-12 public schools)

Nonprofit Sector-Services
The National Council of Nonprofits (n.d.) alluded to the significance of “nonprofits” in this country and the many societal purposes they have (para. 1). “America’s 1.3 million charitable nonprofits feed, heal, shelter, educate, inspire, enlighten, and nurture people of every age, gender, race, and socioeconomic status...” (National Council of Nonprofits, n.d., para. 2). Examples of services provided by the nonprofit sector include the following:
Healthcare services (e.g., patient treatment via nonprofit hospitals)
Worship services via religious institutions (e.g., churches, synagogues, temples)
Nonprofit organizations (e.g., National Multiple Sclerosis Society) funding research related to treatment development and discovery of a disease cure.
Providing meals to the elderly population (e.g., Meals on Wheels)
Educating the public on historical events (e.g., museums)
Public and Nonprofit Sectors—Services
The public and nonprofit sectors collaborate frequently to provide certain services. Brachman (2022) argued that “nonprofit organizations are indispensable partners for the public sector to maximize federal dollars and leverage funds...” (para. 5). The multi-million dollar “Wayne County Small Business Hub” project, a county government-local nonprofit effort to offer “technical assistance to new and existing small minority-or women-owned businesses...” could be considered one specific example of such relationship (Brachman, 2022, para. 15). Another service example would be government entities and nonprofit agencies collaborating to provide aid to communities affected by natural disasters such as hurricanes or floods. Lopez (2021) mentioned a healthcare service-related example in which one state government agency (i.e., “Texas Department of State Health Services”) was in partnership with state-level “faith-
