The reasons Joe intrigues us go well beyond the mysterious, romantic, and endearing qualities that he seems to exude with flawless perfection. Despite his vile actions, Joe is shown as a figure that is incredibly relatable, making him a good example of an anti- hero. The way he was written for the screen is what determines everything. I should be clear that this does not serve as an excuse for Joe's actions. Penn Badgley, who plays the lead role, felt compelled to caution fans against supporting Joe and his harmful behaviors at one point. Despite the fact that Joe is a psychopath with regressive traumas and undoubtedly a dangerous person, he has been able to win over many admirers' hearts and attention. Which is undoubtedly fantastic news for the showrunners of the TV series. Because Joe is narrating what he does, his thoughts have depth and serve as a barrier between what he does and what viewers need to know. Additionally, it gives the most observant observers clear warning signs: Joe likes to think of himself as a hopeless romantic, but his behavior betrays an opportunistic, greedy, and cold nature. Joe is a charmingly unstable character since his thinking and his behavior are at odds with one another. This is a dualism that always piques interest. However, the spectator is already aware of Joe's demands from the beginning: he has to confront his history, find help, and stop someone from getting wounded. Season 2 expands on that idea and gives his psyche even more depth by unearthing long-forgotten tragedies. And yet, we continue to support the villain who dismembered one of his ex-girlfriends.
