Part 1
1.
Identify the distinctive stylistic features of Classical music.
Greater focus is placed on tonal harmony, single-line melodies, expanded ensembles, and
simplicity in classical period music.
2.
Explain the standard multimovement cycle? How many movements are included?
Numerous exceptional pieces of instrumental music, such as the symphony, concerto,
sonata, and string quartet from the Classical era, are composed of three or four
conventional movements.
3.
Discuss the rhythmic flexibility, texture, melody, dynamics of classical music as
compared with baroque music.
The majority of it is homophonic, with melody rising above chordal accompaniment (but
counterpoint is still present, especially toward the end of the piece). The piece's diversity
and contrast became more obvious. In contrast to the Baroque era, the Classical period
featured more frequent mood and timbre shifts as well as a wider range of keys, melodies,
rhythms, and dynamics.
4.
Discuss the emergence of the piano as the favored keyboard instrument during the
classical era.
Because it could play considerably more quietly and softly than the harpsichord, it was the
favorite. The extension of the orchestra was the second significant advancement in sound
during the Classical era.

5.
Identify important classical forms such as sonata form, theme and variations, minuet and
trio, rondo.
In sonata form, it is the form of a single movement, with the exposition, development, and
recapitulation as its three sections; occasionally, a coda would come after the
recapitulation. The variation and theme are A type of music where the main subject is
repeated again, changing either the pitch, rhythm, melody, dynamics, harmony, or tone
color each time it is performed either on its own or as a component of a bigger composition.
A trio with a minuet is Three pieces make up this dance-inspired musical form: the trio, the
minuet, and the minuet. 3/4 time, triple meter, and typically moderate tempo frequently
heard as the third movement in string quartets, symphonies, etc. Rondos are the final
movements of symphonies, string quartets, and sonatas. They are composed of a subject
that is repeated in variation after the next theme.
6.
Discuss instrumental genres such as the classical era such as symphony, concerto, and
chamber music.
A symphony is a major orchestral work that usually consists of three or four parts. It was
the most significant kind of absolute music during the classical era. The steam roller effect
and the rocket motif were the two new themes. A concerto is an instrumental piece with
multiple sections for a solo (or group) instrument. Chamber music is a genre of
instrumental music that consists of a small ensemble with one player for each part.
7.
Discuss classical opera focusing on the operas of Mozart.
Opera is a theatrical play that is entirely performed to music. It consists of vocal parts
accompanied by instruments, frequently including orchestral overtures and interludes.
