Part 2:
"El Principito" (The Little Prince) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry can greatly motivate, engage,
and enable students. The themes can motivate students by getting them to use their imaginations
and encouraging them to look at life’s mysteries. The story engages students and sparks their
creativity. Universal themes like friendship and love make the story relatable to students from
diverse backgrounds. For language learners, the book offers an opportunity to practice Spanish
and develop language skills. The book can also be used for creative activities and that can allow
students to express their thoughts and interpretations. Overall, "El Principito" is a good
educational tool that motivates through exploration and creativity.
Through the universal themes
it can engage language skills, critical thinking, and creative expression.
Part 3:
What strategies do you use to promote discussions about diversity and inclusion using the texts
in your classroom library?
Ms. Lopez spoke about giving students the space to interpret readings and ask questions. While
she asks questions, she also tries to guide her students towards what the text and the plot is trying
to teach them. She likes to emphasize plots and themes.
How do you approach selecting books for your classroom library in terms of diversity and
representation?
Ms. Lopez spoke about choosing books and stories where characters reflect and look like the
students in the class she is teaching. She is in a bilingual Spanish speaking class. She understands
that students learn better when characters and stories they read reflect the life they are living.
Have you noticed student engagement or understanding changes when exposed to diverse texts?
Ms. Lopez spoke about how most books in the library are Spanish. She let me know that students
respond well to stories that are in Spanish and even the students who didn’t speak Spanish
enjoyed and responded well to those books.

How do you address potential challenges or concerns from community members or
administrators regarding including diverse texts?
Ms. Lopez stated that she doesn’t really face those challenges but if she did she would have
conversations with parents or administration to see how they felt and also express her feelings as
well.
