God’s Story Outline

1) Creation
Story Summary: The Bible begins by saying, “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.”
This is the first account of creation. It was the commencement of the greatest drama and story known to
man. As stated by the Bible there was darkness and void, and then God’s spirit moved among the face of
the waters fulfilling His word. This was the start of seven wonder-filled days of God’s magnificent display
of His wonders and works with creativity. Which led to the creation of mankind. Here, we see God’s
display of His love by revealing to us the account of creation.
Reference: Genesis 1:1-31
Bridge: During the creation account, God created Adam and Eve, which would eventually lead to the fall
of man.
2) Fall-Sin
Story Summary: Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden for consuming the forbidden
fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil after being tempted by Lucifer (in serpent form),
which led to a drastic change in their physical appearance as they became naked (which brought them
shame). Their act of disobedience caused a spiritual separation from God and prevented them and every
person after from having direct contact with Him. They faced mortality, disease, and anguish, ultimately
leading to their physical death as well as every human that followed after them. These things were a
result of what God had foretold.
Reference: Genesis 3:1-24
Bridge: God made a promise of a savior after the fall of man.
3) Promise (of a future savior)
Story Summary: The central theme of the Bible is the promise of a Savior. This promise was fulfilled
when God sent His son, Jesus, to be born of a virgin, die on the cross, and rise from the grave three days
later. Through Jesus, we are given new life and delivered from the consequences of our sins every day. As
Christians, we are constantly being delivered from the influence of sin. One day, when the Lord's plan for
our lives is complete, we will have the opportunity to meet Him face to face. Praise be to Him for His love
and Mercy.
Reference: Jeremiah 29:11
Bridge: God-appointed individuals prophesied and predicted a future Savior.
4) Prophecies (messengers with messages from God to His people)
Story Summary: Moses, one of the most prominent figures in the Old Testament, played a significant role
as a prophet and warned the Egyptian pharaoh to release God's people. Failure to grant what he had
asked would result in famine, disease, and the death of the firstborn son. The Israelites found
themselves at the Red Sea, with Pharaoh's army in pursuit, and with God's help Moses parted for their
escape, following Pharaoh's order to leave. Jesus' birth was told through prophecies that demonstrated
God’s ability to work out even the smallest details, the place of Jesus' birth, and the circumstances
surrounding it. Several Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled with the birth of Jesus.
Reference: Genesis 22:18 Micah 5:2
Bridge: Although some of the prophecies may have seemed unreal, the birth of Jesus was significant.
5) Virgin Birth (prophecies and fulfillment)
Story Summary: According to the Bible, the Virgin Mary was visited by an angel of the Lord who gave her
the news that she received favor from God and would give birth to His son. She was instructed to name
him Jesus and He would be from the lineage of David and inherit the throne. The birth of Jesus was a
miracle as Mary became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Although Jesus came to Earth as
a man, He was still as much God as he was man. Jesus’ prophesied birth and life would bring glory to
God.
Reference: Isaiah 7:14
Bridge: Jesus was God in the flesh, just as much man as well as God.
6) Incarnation (God in the flesh) & Deity (fully man – fully God)
Story Summary: In Jesus' time on Earth, he never once lost his divine nature. The act of incarnation is
God taking on Human form while maintaining His divine power as fully man/fully God.
Reference: Hebrews 10:5-7
Bridge: As a man and God Jesus' life was perfect and He performed many miracles.
7) Jesus’ Life (person and life)
Story Summary: Jesus a name heard by billions, and accepted by few, grew up in Bethlehem and
Jerusalem. As a child, He questioned the spiritual leaders in the temple. He lived a completely sinless life.
Once He started His earthly ministry, He selected twelve disciples who were His closest companions.
Having lived a perfect life, many people still despised Him and desired to crucify Him. Eventually, He was
crucified and hung on a cross to atone for every sin ever committed. He was buried in a tomb and then,
three days later, He rose from the dead victoriously conquering death, hell, and the grave.
Reference: Romans 6:8-11 John 12:23-26
Bridge: Jesus lived a perfect life but eventually was brutally beaten and hung on a cross.
8) Jesus’ Death
Story Summary: Jesus’ death is the most significant/pivotal event in human history. After being betrayed
by one of His disciples (Judas Iscariot), Jesus was arrested and put on trial. Pontius Pilate knew Jesus was
innocent, but the people wanted to crucify Him. Jesus carried His cross, was nailed to it, and suffered
through pain. He willingly sacrificed himself for the sins of humanity and offers salvation to anyone who
believes. This was a selfless act of love and grace. This act fulfilled countless prophecies foretold in the
Old Testament. Through the death and resurrection of Christ, we are provided with an opportunity for
eternal life.
Reference: John 3:16 Romans 3:23-25
Bridge: Death has no hold. A resurrected Savior is coming.
9) Resurrection
Story Summary: After His death on the cross, He was placed in a borrowed tomb, which had a massive
stone rolled in front of it. Three days after Jesus’ burial Roman authorities found the tomb empty, and
Jesus then appeared to over five hundred people, alive. This was the ultimate victory over hell and
death. The life, death, and resurrection had been prophesied in the Old Testament for thousands of
years. Hope is given to all who hear and receive the truth, they are without fault.
Reference: Romans 6:8-11 Matthew 28:2-7
Bridge: A resurrected Christ gives His last instructions to the Disciples
10) Mandate (Commission) and Ascension
Story Summary: Jesus’ commission mandates the disciples to go out and make disciples of all nations,
and baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. This commission portrays Jesus’
message to all His followers to spread and teach the gospel in every corner of the Earth. After giving the
disciples this commission Jesus ascended back into Heaven, returning to the right hand of God. The
ascension is almost like us here on Earth, put here to spread the gospel message until the day the Lord
decides to call us home. A physical presence into a spiritual presence.
Reference: Matthew 28:18-20
Bridge: The resurrected Christ has given us a relationship with Him through the Holy Spirit, we must live
by completing our commission.
