Prior to beginning work on this Discussion forum, 1. In order to start thinking about history, think of a film, video, image, song, or piece of music that reminds you of an era or event in the past. Consider the film, video, image, song or piece of music that you selected. Explain why you chose this piece. Explain what it tells us about the historical event or era it depicts. Think about what you want your classmates to know about you as a person and your academic, professional, and personal goals. 2. Next, start thinking about your work for this course, which will focus on American history from 1877 to the present. One of the primary areas of focus in the course will be the examination of political and civil rights of traditionally disadvantaged groups within American Society and their struggles for social equity within American society. To this end, you will select one of the following disadvantaged groups and examine their experiences throughout the course, culminating in your Final Paper. (Your group choice does not have to relate to your chosen historical piece above.) African Americans Native Americans/American Indians Women Immigrants Consider which group you have chosen to focus on. Why have you chosen this group? If you are having trouble deciding, which groups are you most interested in and why?
Hello Everyone, My name is ------ and I am pursuing a bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration. I hope to one day obtain my master’s and use this degree to help the under-insured seek and obtain medical care. I currently live in the Seattle area with my wife and 2-year-old son, although I am originally from Yuma, Arizona. I enjoy spending time with my family and also getting back into Brazilian jiu jitsu after a prolonged layoff. I have chosen the film My Family (1995), which depicts a family’s growth through several decades and generations. The reason for choosing this film is purely on personal experiences that resembled those in the film. For myself and perhaps many Hispanics, this film did a great job showcasing not only the struggles of immigrants throughout different backdrops in American history, but also the interpersonal relationships within the family. It is because of this personal experience, that I have decided to examine Immigrants in American history.
