Moral Development of Children
2
Abstract
The stages of moral development were studied
by Lawrence Kohlburg, a psychologist at the University of Chicago whose research focused on how children acquired moral judgment. Kohlberg used the surveys to assess the moral growth of approximately 72 adolescents residing in the Chicago area. According to Kohlberg's view of moral development, morality and moral reasoning are developed
in children over the course of six distinct phases. Those included being disciplined
by others, receiving incentives, and being subjected
to other people's censure. Overall, moral development started in infancy and persisted until death, according to the journal piece "The Development of Children's Orientations Toward a Moral
Order.” I will cover the first
three stages of moral development in children and how they affected those who participated.
