A) The three videos I have chosen are “Writing a cooperative paragraph” “Building Classroom community through the study of Chinese art and culture” and “Defining the problem, effect, solution, through an interactive read aloud.” I will explain what I saw in the three videos of the teachers addressing children’s social, emotional, and cultural needs. B) In the first video I watched, “Writing a cooperative paragraph” it meets children’s social needs by allowing her students to be in small groups. When the teacher does small groups, it helps students foster relationships with their peers. “Building Classroom community through the study of Chinese art and culture” meets children’s cultural needs. The teacher had a student from India and would be traveling to visit relatives and it spiked interest in the other students of traveling outside the United Sates and prompted a study on India. “Defining the problem, effect, solution, through an interactive read aloud” meets children’s emotional needs by providing warm, caring, and responsive interactions. B2) The teachers could’ve more effectively incorporated cultural needs in the learning environment by encouraging their students to research and share information from their ethnic background which would help to develop trusting relationships between peers which would also effectively incorporate social and emotional needs in the learning environment. B3) I learned one sustaining pedagogy strategy in the video, “Building Classroom Community through the study of Chinese art and culture.” I could incorporate a sustaining pedagogy strategy into my future practice as a teacher by getting to know the cultures of the students. Using information that I receive about their cultures, implement it into my lesson plans. I also learned pedagogy strategy in the video, “Writing a cooperative paragraph.” The teacher allowed her students to feel comfortable and open to sharing. I could incorporate that pedagogy strategy by listening to my students and making them feel comfortable. B4) I could involve my students’ caregivers in the execution of the strategies by sending home surveys, integrating books that include people from my students’ cultures into my curriculum. I could also involve students’ caregivers by welcoming family involvement. B5) I could involve the community in the execution of the strategies by having guest speakers, or hosting field trips that relate to their current lesson.
