SCI 100 Module Six Activity Template: Science in the Real World Instructions First, choose one video from the module resources to watch. You should use points made in the video you chose, and any other course resources, to support your responses to the questions below. Replace the bracketed text with your responses. Apply the scientific lens to a personal experience or event. [Science is in everyone’s life, home, environment we cannot always see the connection between our lives and that of wildlife living in the streams, but I want my children to value the life of a frog or a fish as it blends into the lives of our own. I chose the video The Other Inconvenient Truth . The video uses the importance of taking care of what we have. The connection I try to show my children is God gave us th8s land and the inhabitants to survive. The fish we catch has a purpose just as we do. The water the wildlife needs to survive is also the water we need to survive. If we are to live, we must respect what we have and the lives which also sustain us. Keeping the rules of taking away all your trash, picking up other trash left, planting a tree, these are ways to improve your life and the world around you. Explain the value of being a scientifically informed citizen within your community. [I am very involved in my community; however, I am not always verbal. I try to listen to the other sayers, hear the concerns and weigh the balance. One voice may be a small cry in the wilderness, but it is also a sound that can change lives. Understanding that we have a right to be heard, and an obligation to listen is valuable.] Discuss the obligation of citizens to be scientifically literate and how that could affect global contemporary issues. [I would like to use my voice to expand the knowledge of how one piece of fishing string can destroy a family of geese, or a few empty bottles can become a dam for collecting trash and causing illness to the animals and eventually lead to massive amounts of money in cleanups. To bring the community together and show visuals of the beauty around us and the tragedy waste can bring to the land and our homes would be eye opening.]
