Rebecca Stinson Classify, Connect, and Compare Reflection In previous modules we have learned/ discussed the importance of visual learning. We discussed how visual representation supports students and their memorization of specific vocabulary words and other key lessons. Therefore, I believe one way I could enhance content instruction is through graphic organizers. Graphic organizers are designed to help
student organize their thoughts through images and words. According to researchers, when graphic organizers are incorporated into instruction, student learning improves (Hall & Strangman, 2002). Graphic organizers are way to ensure that students thoroughly
understand the content that is being taught. For example, in science when students begin to learn about the planets, I would provide students with a graphic organizer with a image
of each planet, students would be required to color each of the planets based on the descriptions discussed for each plant. Such as Earth would be colored with blue and green, students would then be required to jot down 3-5 facts for each planet. By having students complete the graphic organizer it becomes an interactive way for students to remember key details about the planets. Additionally, the graphic organizer becomes a valuable study resource for students as they prepare for end of unit test and quizzes. All in all, graphic organizer provide visual learners a way to enhance their understanding of key instructional standards.
