Leslie Van Houten: Former Manson family member released from California prison, official says |
CNN
For my belief systems and ethics assignment, I choose Former Manson family member Leslie Van Houten released from California prison, official says
by Cheri Mossburg and Emma Tucker, CNN. This story is about Leslie Van Houten being 19 years old when she joined the Manson cult and join the murderous cult. She was released at the age of 70 years old. She will be
released with parole supervision. The family that was impacted by this was still feeling the impact. They believe that she is still a cold-blooded killer and believe that she is dangerous, pernicious, and precedent. The Governor expressed his disappointment with the court's decision to release Houten, but he announced that he will not take any additional measures. One of a family member that was a victim of these murders stated “I certainly have respect for Governor Newsom and the attorney general,” Sebring’s nephew, Anthony DiMaria. He goes on to say that their family believes that its wrong that they are not going to try for another appeal.
I see both sides of the parties. If I was a family member that was a victim of these murders, I would not want the person that did the murders release for any reason. That to me would be another slap in the face, saying look she was 19 and now 70 we should forgive. But how do you forgive someone that did this? I also see that if you were not a victim service then I could see where they are saying forgive and forget. But again how can you do that?
