WRSP 101 R EADING R EFLECTION J OURNAL : W HY AND H OW W E W ORSHIP T EMPLATE Based on John MacArthur’s Book , Worship: The Ultimate Priority, Chapters 3-4 and Chapter 15 Noteable Quote: “The sole purpose of our being in heaven is that we might worship God rightly and forever.” Citation: John MacArthur, Worship: The Ultimate Priority, (Chicago: Moody Publishers, 2012), ch. 4. Bibliography: MacArthur, John. Worship: The Ultimate Priority. Chicago: Moody Publishers, 2012. Main Points: Chapter 3: The concept of worship in the Bible is all-encompassing, extending beyond time and place, and that worship is an essential element of the Christian life. Chapter 4: Worship is mandatory in a Christian's life, and one of the purposes of redemption is transforming sinners into people who give glory to God through their worship. Chapter 15: In order to Worship correctly, one must use their entire being, not just inward or outward, but both of them together to glorify God with worship with the power to impact the world. Reflection on the Reading: Page 1 of 2
WRSP 101 I agree with the author's position that in order to worship correctly, one must focus on the state of the heart rather than just the actions they are taking; if you are to live your life the way God has laid out in the Bible, you must have a true worshipper's heart. There are multiple types of worship that each serve a specific purpose. Worship of repentance is when one acknowledges their sins and worships God despite the fear of condemnation, worship of submission is when one submits to the will of God during trials, and worship of devotion when one devotes themself to God despite any personal sacrifice that they might have to make. When you worship publicly, do not allow yourself to become pompous by trying to impress others with your worship. Instead, focus on bringing glory to God together as one body. When worshipping alone, allow yourself to be vulnerable to God and take comfort that when you worship with a pure heart, He will listen even if you feel unworthy to be in His presence. Page 2 of 2
