The Importance of Literature to the Christian-APA
After watching the assigned lessons for this week, I found some truthful yet disheartening facts
in the video “
The Christian Holistic Approach to the Study of Literature.”
In the video, they begin talking
about the deliberate construction of our minds. God has created our minds in such a way as to allow us
the ability to control what goes in and what stays in our memory. The video then goes into our education
systems, where I found the statement to be the most honest and eye-opening. The dedication of time
and money was supposed to help build a foundation for a healthy and effective educational
environment. Sadly, the opposite occurred, and these elements produced an unsafe and non-Godly
environment, which has shattered our children's wholeness
.
Our school systems have removed and
dismembered many vital and crucial elements of a child's educational environment. Elements such as
cursive writing (although not biblically significant), art and music classes, and reciting the pledge of
allegiance were removed. I believe these aspects of the educational environment were substantial to
providing a God-friendly and accepted diverse environment where all children from different religions
could feel safe. The unsafe element of the statement from the video has become more apparent and
more evident as the years seem to pass. The statistics on school shootings and bullying within our
schools have become alarming. Our children are growing up in a time where they have security and
police at every door, metal detectors at every entrance, and they must be aware of their surroundings to
prevent violence. These children of God should be able to practice their faith with pride and walk into
school eager to learn without concern for physical, mental, or verbal violence.
