Terry Johnson 12/3/2023 SNHU HUM-100 6-1 Short Answers Not just a Game. As a member of the nerd community, I deeply appreciate the contributions of Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, the creators of Dungeons and Dragons and the fathers of Tabletop Gaming. Over the years, this style of gameplay has faced its share of criticisms, from being labeled as a cult that worships Satan to being recognized as a community of friends who gather to tell stories and have fun. What started as a war-based game called Chainmail has now become a cultural phenomenon, influencing creators in art, social culture, and literature. Dungeons and Dragons is a 20th-century work that prompts important questions about community, acceptance, and the freedom to be who you want to be without judgment. It's incredible how one game can lead to another and ultimately shape the entire world of gaming. This game faced opposition when it first emerged, with many religious people condemning it as un-Christian. However, despite the initial backlash, the game persisted and those who played it went on to become the creators of video games and writers of stories that we enjoy today. It's even had an impact on TV and movies, with many actors using it to hone their craft. If you look among books, TV shows, movies, art, and games, you will find a vast array of inspirations. If you were to ask authors, actors, artists, and developers what has influenced them the most in their careers, you would get a variety of answers. However, I can bet
that at least one of those answers would include playing Dungeons and Dragons and how it fueled their creative inspiration for their future endeavors. Have you ever wondered what would happen if Dungeons and Dragons were never created? It's interesting to think about what would happen to a whole genre of books and movies, not to mention the impact on video games. Dungeons and Dragons wasn't just some game two men created in a basement. It was a starting point of creative inspiration for the current generation and beyond.
