GREAT POST-RENAISSANCE EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHERS
2
What are the effects of applying the concepts identified in the list in American educational
administration?
After studying this module and the contributions and theories of the post-renaissance
philosophers, I learned that their teachings and postulates are still valid in today’s educational
system. Furthermore, as a future educational leader I understand now how all these philosophers
changed the educational model through the centuries, paving the way for us.
Bacon posed the concern that the students should receive a holistic education exploring academic
subjects such as natural sciences and humanities. When applying this postulate in today’s
American educational
administration, as an educational specialist I will make sure to include in
the school’s curriculum lessons where students learn thru experience. For Bacon, the student is
an active being, and the acquisition of knowledge will happen only with perception and the use
of the senses.
Furthermore, in our modern educational system we still use the scientific method from
elementary grade levels all the way to higher education grades. Francis Bacon presented a
mechanism for the production of knowledge that is still in effect today. He taught us that all
hypothesis need to be proven by the use of observation.
Likewise,
John Locke’s point of view stated use of the senses in his theory of knowledge. He
proposed the idea to see the child as a blank book that will be filled and shaped with all the
learning gained
from experiences through
life. Similarly, I see myself as a future educational
administrator using Locke’s holistic approach. I truly believe it is equally important to nurture all
