Solar System Astronomy Lab Observation Journal Outline Name: Sarah Sherman Date: September 6th, 2023 Time: 10:00pm Location: 114 Earle St, Clemson Weather conditions: fairly clear 1. If you can see the moon, what phase is it in? Third quarter/last quarter 2. If you can see the moon, where is it located relative to your horizon and a landmark? Around 2 fists below the horizon and 2 fists to the right of my window. 3. Choose one planet (Mars, Jupiter or Saturn) and give its location relative to your horizon and a landmark. Jupiter was visible about 1-2 fists above the horizon 4. Is there anything else in the sky that you find interesting? I thought it was crazy to be able to spot jupiter in the sky and be able to measure it. 5. How do these observations compare to your previous observations? I haven’t made any previous observations. It is located around 3 fists below the horizon and 1 fist to the right of my window. 3. Jupiter was visible about 2 fists above the horizon. 4. I thought it was interesting that I could point out more constellations then I used to. 5. The moon seems to be moving, based on my past observation, further from the horizon and closer right to my window. It is located around 3-4 fists below the horizon and 1 fist to the right of my window. 3. Jupiter was visible about 2 fists above the horizon. 4. I thought it was interesting that I could see Mars too. 5. The moon seems to be moving a little bit compared to my past observations, but it also seems very similar despite the change in moon phase. It is located around 5 fists below the horizon and 1 fist to the right of my window. 3. Jupiter was visible about 3 fists above the horizon. 4. I thought it was interesting that Jupiter was moving further up from the horizon. 5. The moon seems to be moving in the same direction below the horizon compared to the past 3 observations, but it doesnt seem to be moving when measuring it to the direction of my window.
