Fill in the definitions. And all the usual stuff. Use the text, glossary, index and lecture. Do not use google. This is another short but sweet set of definitions.
a.
I already memorized these definitions so I can type them out from memory.
b.
Ok, I’ll go the text and lecture and get these in. Term Definition
Complete metamorphosis
Complete metamorphosis is the type of insect development that includes egg, larva, pupal, and adult stages, which differ greatly in morphology.
Incomplete metamorphosis
Incomplete metamorphosis is the type of metamorphosis in which an insect hatches from an egg and then goes through several nymphal stages. Each nymphal stage looks like a smaller version of the adult insect, but becomes slightly larger as it ages.
Parthenogenesis
Parthenogenesis is a form of reproduction in which an egg can develop into an embryo without being fertilized by a sperm
Botanical insecticides
Botanical insecticides are naturally occurring chemicals extracted or derived from plants or minerals
Natural enemies/Beneficial insects/Good bugs

Questions
2.
We’re in the depths of the information packed, well-written text that is the California Master Gardener Handbook, 2
nd
Edition. Specifically, we are in the Insects chapter that starts on page 177. The introduction says a lot about the evolutionary success of insects. Start reading from the top of 177 and work your way through the following questions.
a.
Ok. I guess reading is part of the experience.
b.
I’d rather not read and miss several of the questions here. I was hoping reading wasn’t part of the college experience. 3.
Insects are the most abundant animals on earth.
a.
True
b.
False
4.
Are the vast majority of insects are considered destructive or beneficial? Please use complete sentences for this one and give us some details. The vast majority of insects are considered beneficial or neutral to humans and ecosystems. They play essential roles in pollination, decomposition, and as a part of the food web, with only a small percentage being destructive pests.
5.
It is estimated that 1/6 of the world’s food crop is consumed by insects and they also carry pathogens, which they can transmit to crops.
a.
True
b.
False
6.
Write out the four bullet points listed in your text that distinguish the class of insects in the adult form, which is highly variable. Use complete sentence and list those out here.
Wing Variation: Adult insects may have one or two pairs of wings, or none at all, with significant variation in wing shape, size, and texture between species.
Mouthpart Adaptation: They exhibit a wide range of mouthpart structures adapted for different feeding habits, from biting and chewing to piercing and sucking.
Metamorphosis: Many insects undergo complete metamorphosis with adult forms that look entirely different from their larval stages, often with different habitats and behaviors.
Reproductive Adaptations: Adult insects display a variety of reproductive adaptations, including complex mating behaviors, diverse egg-laying apparatuses, and some exhibit parental care.

him while saying, "Hey Pops, how's it hanging"? Mr. R. doesn't know how to respond to this and
just watches as Jonathan moves on to the next resident. Jonathan moves around the dining area,
calling the clients "honey", "my man" and "grandma". Soon after, he turns to you and asks when
break is as he really needs a smoke. You tell him that his first break is not until after all the residents
have eaten and are at activities, which is around 0945. He rolls his eyes and says to you "There's
no way I'll make it until then. I'm just running out now for a quick one" and just leaves. You are
shocked by this behaviour and go find your manager to report your concerns. Questions 1-3 are
based on this scenario.
