Instructions
The purpose of the Concept Check is to evaluate your grasp of the basic module content. This quiz contains up to
20 questions that will focus on your comprehension, application, and analysis of the material. Question types
include multiple-choice, matching, and true/false. Study prior to taking the quiz, as you may not have time to
research the answers to all questions.
Time limit:
There is a 45-minute time limit and at the end of the time limit, the exam will close and be
automatically submitted for grading. You will get a notification pop-up approximately 10 seconds before time
expires. If you leave the exam for any reason, the timer will continue and the exam will automatically submit when
the time is up. If you lose your Internet connection, you may reconnect and return to the exam where you left off
as long as time has not expired. If you encounter technical difficulties, please contact your instructor.
Attempts:
You are allowed two attempts for each Concept Quiz. The better of the two scores will be recorded in
your Grades area. Questions are pooled so you will not see the same questions on the second attempt.
Grading:
Multiple-choice and matching exam questions are automatically graded and will be reflected
immediately in your Grades area. Please contact your instructor if you have any questions.
Steps to Success
1. Read/review the Critical Components and all related resources provided.
2. Ask questions. Use the Online Office or send an email to your instructor.
3. Engage in the discussion activities, where you can explore the content critically and deeply.
4. Get started early. Even though the Concept Check is not due until the end of the module, it is a good idea to
use your first attempt early in the module to allow enough time to learn from it before using your second
attempt. Immediately after submitting your first attempt, you will have one opportunity to see which questions
you got wrong and will receive immediate feedback on those questions. Take notes, study, ask questions for
clarification and then complete your second attempt.
5. Review feedback. After your final attempt, your instructor will provide detailed feedback in the Grades area.
Reviewing this feedback is important, since the concepts covered in the course are highly interconnected,
and are likely to pop back up again throughout the course.
This activity supports Module Objectives 1-7, and Learning Outcome 7.

List the energy yield in ATP molecules for each of the following
reactions. If the reaction needs ATP give the answer as a negative
number.
✓ Correct
This reaction has two steps. In the first step, ATP is generated as glucose is broken down into two molecules of pyruvate. Under anaerobic conditions
pyruvate is converted to lactate. In this second step, ATP, in the form of NADH+H+, is used to power the conversion of pyruvate to lactate. Energy-
producing steps can be summarized as follows
glucose → 2 pyruvate + 2 ATP + 2 NADH (5 ATP)
ATP produced = 2 ATP +2 NADH(1 NADH…
