1.Why is ethics important in business decision making?
Ethics help you make the right decision in business; they are strategic and help set the direction for the entire organization. If you make unethical decision it leads to scandals and corporate ruin.
2. What is ethics? Ethics is a standard that is higher than what is legal doing the right thing.
3. What were the impacts of the Enron Scandal? Stockholders lost more than $1 Billion in stock value, people lost jobs, rolling blackouts in California, retirement funds and health care was lost, the Astros had to rename their stadium, and was the reason for the Sarbanes Oxley Law getting passed.
4. What was the issue with the Ford Pinto? The unibody construction, and when they tested the car if it got hit in the back bumper greater than 15 miles per hour the doors would jam and the gas tank could catch fire, and Ford valued people’s life of $175,000 and if you got into an accident they paid you that $175,000.
5. What is the purpose of the Sarbanes-Oxley Law? It was a code of ethics for senior financial officers to make sure no more crazy incidents like Enron happen again. It was passed to make companies more honest and ethical and to comply with all government rules and regulations.
6. Is it possible to be unethical but still be legal? Explain your answer. Yes, it is possible, being unethical doesn’t necessarily mean you are breaking the law just that you are making a wrong decision. For example, lying to someone about what you are doing is unethical, but not illegal. You can 100% be unethical but still in the boundaries of the law even though you are completely in the wrong.
7. Google a company – do they have an ethics statement on their website? List the company and
the answer? The company I googled was apple, and they do indeed have an ethics statement on their website.
8. Describe operations management as a system.

The first thig you will need to do is analyze the completions product and their quality to see what you must make your product like, this can lead to new training for employees to keep up the quality.

VOLKSWAGEN: THE SCANDAL
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found that many VW cars being sold in America had a "defeat device" - or software - in diesel engines that could detect when they were being tested, changing the performance accordingly to improve and falsify results.
The German car giant has since admitted to cheating emissions tests in the US. The result of this cheating is that engines emitted nitrogen oxide pollutants up to 40 times above what is allowed in the US. Martin Winterkorn, the VW Chief Executive at the time, produced a video where he said that he was “endlessly sorry” and that the misconduct was a result of “the grave errors of very few” employees.
1. How did VW jeopardize both their internal business ethics and culture and external business ethics to consumers?
2. What responsibility does VW owe to their employees who were not part of the scandal?
3. Did the employees involved in the scandal violate their loyalty to the company?
