SPCE 280 FALL 2022
1) What was the purpose of the study?
The purpose of this study is to show how beneficial the token economy method is for students with ASD. The study evaluated the training of a token economy without using any other teaching procedures such as scheduled reinforcement, etc. The study was used to provide trainers, educators and others with the correct way to train staff on the method. Also, to record data on the trainees response.
2) List the benefits of using manualized instruction (in your own words – no direct quotations)?
The benefits of using a manualized instruction (instruction manual), is first effectiveness. Effectiveness is a major role in these types of methods like the token economy due to making sure that you are properly trained to complete a session and collect correct data. 3) What were the dependent and independent variables of this study?
The dependent variables of this study were the reinforcement of the economy and the ability to be able to learn from the article when it comes to properly training for these type of methods. Independent variables were the amount of steps it took the 3 undergrads to complete the method. 4) What type of research design was used for this study?
The researchers used a baseline design across the 3 staff trainees in the study. The data was displayed on the amount of steps it took each trainee and the percentage of correct response from the child participant. 5) Summarize the results of the study.
The baseline results of the study indicated that the trainees responded for a average of 50% during the baseline sessions. The data collected were on the responses of the trainees. The results of the study showed that brief written instructions were not sufficient to train staff and that manualized instruction was effective to train behavior-analytic technologies (Graff & Karsten, 2012).
For 2 additional extra credit points, respond to the following:
6) What was one thing you learned or found of interest from reading this article?
I actually learned a lot from reading this article. Already being in the field of ABA and actually already running this type of method I have learned different ways to provide a better response to a client. Also agree completely although the token board is reinforcing an edible or toy in the clients choice should be a reinforcer of the token board.

Research Case Scenario
28 year old, Friendly Frank, found himself unemployed and looking for work after he was fired from First National Bank. Frank was well liked and always had received positive reviews during his five year career at the bank. He had joined the organization right after graduating college and had been promoted and done well during his time there. Frank was fired for breaking a company rule regarding using social media accounts while at work. Frank would occasionally log into his Facebook social media account during work hours on his work computer which violated company rules. This ultimately led to his losing his job as it was against First National Bank policies for employees to engage in personal activities online for non-work related activities during the workday. Frank lamented his firing stating that it was a complete overreaction, his activities were innocent, occasional, and brief. Not any different than anyone taking an occasional break throughout the day. The…
