HRM-360 People Analytics
March 17th, 2024
It is time for annual performance reviews, and some of the managers you support have asked to see the previous year’s performance evaluations. What is the best source to find this information?
The best place to find specific information about an employee is in their file. Their files have details about their employment status, training, pay, performance, and other personal information. Employee evaluations are integral to the success of our company. Providing fair and concise feedback to an employee is the best way to communicate areas of excellence and improvement. People values feedback and want to know how they can improve their work; this type of relationship will be beneficial to our culture and the employee morale. These evaluations
are an excellent place to help the employee find the next steps to meet their career goals.
The HR director is pulling together a comprehensive report on the issue of turnover. The HR director has asked you to find out which department has had the least amount of employee turnover. Where could you search to find this information?
To properly calculate turnover rates for the company we would need to have a list of the employees at the beginning of the year and a current list of employees with number of terminations per month as well. We can then divide the total number of employees that are left by the previous number and multiply by 100 to get the percentage. This type of data is important to understand why and where the turnovers come from within the company. From there we can do a multitude of things to ensure that people do not wish to leave. This starts with a job analysis
to determine whether the duties are properly reflected in the hiring process. It is more cost effective to retain employees than it is to source, recruit, interview, hire, onboard, and train a new
one. Anything we can do to reduce turnover is a valuable investment.
The marketing manager is considering rehiring a former employee. Where would information on whether John Doe is eligible to be rehired be found?
The first place to look when considering a former employee is their termination file. This
file includes the reasons for termination and work history within the company. We want to be sure that we are not rehiring someone that committed serious offenses. Additionally, this file should include probationary periods, disciplinary actions, and their exit survey. This information
is important and will allow the hiring team to understand who we are hiring and if they were a good fit. Having the proper information about a potential hire will help reduce the risks if they were to be rehired.
The general manager has decided to distribute gas cards to all eligible employees: $50 for full-time and $25 for part-time employees. What type of data would you need to find out this information?
We would need to have a list of all active employees; this list needs to have the employee
schedules and whether they are full-time or part-time and their hours worked. We want to be sure that the proper employees are receiving the correct gas card amounts. This data is also important to stay compliant with the part-time employee’s hours worked, according to the Employment Act of 1955. Our part-time employees are not to work more than 32 hours a week. We would need to identify those that work less than 32 hours and offer them the $25 gas card, and the $50 card would go to any that worked over 32 hours.

Unfortunately, some managers within organizations purposefully make an employee’s situation miserable with direct intent to force the employee out. This is due to many circumstances such as collective bargaining agreements where a union is represented, specific contract language, or tenure policies.
