BUAN 6320 – Fall 2022
Major Assignment 1 – Data Modeling SCOPE: Designing Relational Data Model for Parking Lot Management Create an ER model for each of the following descriptions:
A large organization has several parking lots, which are used by staff.
Each parking lot has a unique name, location, capacity, and several floors
Each parking lot has parking spaces uniquely identified using a space number.
Staff members can request the sole use of a single parking space. Each staff member has a unique number, name, telephone extension number, and vehicle license number
Most parking spaces are under cover, and each can be allocated for use by a staff member for a monthly rate.
Parking spaces that are not covered are free for staff use, and each can be allocated for use by a staff member.
Up to twenty covered parking spaces are available for use by visitors to the company. However, only staff members can book a space for the day of the visit. There is no charge for this type of booking, but the staff member must provide the visitor’s vehicle license number.
Parking management able to display available spaces on each floor
Any cars that violate the rules should be charged a nominal fee
Represent all the ER models described above as a single ER model. Provide any assumptions necessary to support your model.

Insurance Ltd. accepts payments on various insurance policies from employees of businesses across the island. These businesses deduct payments from employees’ salaries and pay the insurance company a lump sum each month. This total amount deducted is shown on each employee’s payslip. Deductions are due at the end of each month and each participating business submits one payment for its employees to the insurance company via online payments through the bank. However, if payments were received after 11:00 a.m., the bank does not process them until the next business day. At the beginning of each month an administrative assistant at MGMT Insurance Ltd. downloads the deductions for each company and allocates payments to the various policies. Due to increased levels of competition, this company is now increasingly finding it difficult to compete – especially as the larger companies seem to be a little more innovative, agile and responsive to client requirements. Management have noticed that staff, especially the highly skilled ones, are now leaving the company to seek work elsewhere (in these larger companies). The university administration would like to add some additional parking locations. To make everyone happy, they would like each
building to be within a 5 minute walk of one set of new parking spaces (the spaces will be added in blocks of 10 parking spaces). The

to the walking time requirement, the university would like to add at least 40 new parking spaces (at least 4 blocks of 10). To help with

One of the main requirements in obtaining this contract is rapid delivery time, because Ed for some reasons wants the cars face lifted and back to his lot in a hurry. Ed has said that if Joe can refit and repaint the five cars, which Ed has just received, within 60 hours or less i.e., start on 5/14 Friday 8am, to complete by 5/16 Sunday 8pm) the contract will be his. Following the time (in hours) required in the refitting shop and the paint shop for each of the five cars. Assuming the cars go through the refitting operations before they are repainted, can Joe meet the time requirement to get the contract? Please explain clearly the scheduling result.

Following are the associated problems to meet customers’ needs
Lengthy 3 to 4 days schedule drafting time, caused by mainframe computer’s long processing time.
Inflexibility of mainframe computer to sudden order changes, leading to tedious manual calculation and direct on-site adjustment
Extra workload for on-site workers
One-month base scheduling that cannot meet customers’ need,
