SBC Staff and Client Outcomes Mukosolu Nwaedozie SPE 562: Personnel Supervision OBM in Ed Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College Arizona State University August 4th, 2021
SBC Pinpointed Problem RBT in a clinic base setting with 10 clients ages 2-15. During scheduled sessions, each behavior technician is responsible for composing and documenting at least 1 strength and 1 weakness during the end of each session onto their session notes. The pinpointed problem is that currently, only 5 out 10 behavior technicians are completing this task after their session. Completion of this task is important in order for Behavior Analysts to analyze the progress that the client is making along with modifying any needed skills. Completing this task is also helpful for behavior technicians to know how clients perform in previous sessions. This problem is socially valid because it inhibits Behavior Analysts to know what kind of progress the client is making and it inhibits the behavior technicians from communicating effectively on what the client needs/wants. Assessment Results/Identified Problem The identified pinpointed problem is a “want to” problem. The behavior technicians know how to document their session notes in an efficient manner and have the necessary resources/tools to do it (can do). Instead behavior technicians have chosen to not leave a specific amount of time of their session to document their session notes effectively, which increases the lack of time management.
SBC Assessment In order to identify the cause of this issue, two methods were conducted as assessment procedures. The first assessment was a survey that was given to behavior technicians and was filled out anonymously. The survey included questions regarding how behavior technicians managed their time during their sessions, how much time they have left at the end of their session, when they update their session notes/how long it takes, and any other confounding barriers they wanted to indicate as to why they are not be able to fill out their session notes efficiently at the end of each session. Time management was also included in the survey, due to technicians struggling to manage their time wisely and documenting their notes efficiently. The second method was an observation of 2 randomly selected behavior technicians of the 10 that completed their session accurately and 2 randomly selected behavior technicians out of the 10 that completed their session notes inaccurately. Quantitative data was conducted throughout the observation period during one-on-one ABA sessions, which focused on recording a narrative of how behavior technicians used their time during their sessions. Afterwards, the quantitative data was used to compare with the survey to determine if time management was the pinpoint issue and to see if any other barriers were problematic during sessions that weren’t mentioned by behavior technicians when taking the survey. BST Procedure, Individual, and Performance Objective BST Procedure The BST procedure will focus on most-to-least prompting within ABA sessions. In most-to- least response prompts, the analyst physically guides the participant through the entire performance sequence, and then gradually reduces the amount of physical assistance provided as training progresses from trial to trial and session to session (Cooper, et al 2020). This procedure

is used for lower learners that need modeling or full prompts that will systematically fade in order to acquire a difficult task. Most-to-least is a technique that is used when an individual's learning history is unknown. Individual This procedure will be conducted on a newly hired colleague (behavior technician) within my clinic and will be referred to as Anna. Performance Objective The performance objective will focus on the behavior technician conducting most-to-least prompts independently with 100% accuracy across 5 different opportunities within 3 different ABA sessions. SBC Antecedent Strategy(ies) There have been two antecedent strategies established in order to help behavior technicians with achieving effective time management, in hopes of increasing the number of behavior technicians to complete their sessions notes efficiently. The first antecedent strategy focuses on conducting a staff training on the importance of time management when conducting sessions. After conducting the survey, it was prevalent that the behavior technicians know how to manage their time wisely but have not fully grasped the importance of conducting their time effectively. Conducting a staff training informing the importance of effective time management will help behavior technicians be more aware of utilizing their time appropriately along with being more proactive within their session.
The second antecedent strategy that will be implemented will be adding in a timer within each room that sessions our being conducted in. The timer will be set to go off 2 times during sessions. A timer will be set for 20 minutes to indicate the behavior technician to clean up and put away any material or reinforcers that were used in sessions. A second timer will be set for 15 minutes to indicate the behavior technician to begin writing their session notes along with implementing 1 weakness and 1 strength that was seen within their session. Conducting both of these antecedent strategies will help bring awareness and proactiveness within the behavior technicians for them to grasp the understanding of time management and how effective time management can benefit within their sessions. SBC Staff and Client Outcomes The behavior change system will be successful when 90% of behavior technicians utilize 90% or more of appropriately using their ABA breaks to update their session notes throughout a 2 hour ABA session. Also, the behavior change system will be successful when 90% or more of behavior technicians complete their session notes accurately at the end of 100% of their sessions. The client/student/consumer behavioral outcomes will consist of a depletion in unstable behaviors for clients and an increase in effective treatments for all clients. If behavior technicians are communicating and collaborating about which procedures to help to reduce challenging behaviors and increase compliance in completing their sessions notes accurately, then this will benefit behavior technicians to implement effective techniques, which will help clients achieve a more desirable behavior outcome during each session.
