Reflection: GCU Code of Conduct
Grand Canyon University

An academic integrity violation I find important to know and understand is cheating. It’s
imperative not to cheat to complete assignments. Students should be honest about their work
especially since it’s online and easily able to manipulate into making it your own. Cheating is
unfair to yourself, teacher, and classmates as it means you are being dishonest. There are students
working hard to obtain good grades and in all fairness so should all students. It’s an important
way to maintain respect and accountability. Plagiarism is a form of a violation of the code of conduct. Plagiarism is taking someone
else’s work and passing it off as your own. We learned about plagiarism at a young age. We were
taught not to cheat or plagiarize our work at least by the time we got into high school. By
choosing to plagiarize your work you are risking losing respect from others. Although we are
working as online students, and it could be hard to share information we must be able to trust
each other not to plagiarize. If you are writing an essay you should cite the sources. By not citing
the proper sources for the information you have used you could be in jeopardy of plagiarism or
cheating. Students should never copy and paste other students’ work or something they find
online without giving credit to the author. Lopes write is a could source to use to help you avoid these types of violations. As
students we must hold ourselves to a higher standard and remain accountable. As we continue
our education journey it’s important to understand that we need complete our assignment in a
timely manner or allow ourselves to have more time for the assignment to avoid these types of
violations. Unfortunately, if s students’ commitments are a violation of the code of conduct they
can compromise their relationship with GCU and their academic enrollment.
In conclusion, it’s important as a student to understand the consequences of the violations
should you choose to not be respectful of the rules. We have used these rules throughout our

Answer the following question in a short paragraph or two. Make your answer as complete and as clear as possible.
On October 24th 2017, an employee working for Amazon at a Texas Fulfillment Center injured her back due to a broken guard rail that was supposed to protect her from falling inventory. Amazon refused to take any responsibility for the injury at the time and denied that the broken equipment was responsible. This is not the only incident of Amazon failing to consider the welfare of its employees. Amazon often does not pay for air conditioning for its warehouses staffed by human workers (while the warehouses staffed by robots must have AC or the robots will cease to function). And during the Covid-19 pandemic, Amazon refused to allow paid sick days for workers who were forced to quarantine due to exposure to the virus. What would a Virtue Ethicist say of this history of behaviour by Amazon?

In the employment area, employers take actions that impact on employees’ privacy in many different ways. Genetic and other medical testing is increasing in employment (sometimes required, sometimes simply offered as an employee benefit). Employers routinely videotape employees and monitor their email and Internet use. Employers also take actions that arguably infringe on employees’ private time and impact on their off-the-job activities and personal associations - this could include drug testing and internet searches of employees' Facebook and blog entries. This raises many issues you may discuss here. Are you concerned about an increasing loss of privacy in our society? How do employers justify this invasion of employee privacy? Do you agree with those reasons? Do employers have a greater right to invade privacy on the job rather than off the job? Any other thoughts? You are free to address this topic either in general or specifically with regard to any of the specific examples…
