The global business environment
What are some advantages and disadvantages for small U.S. businesses competing in today's global markets?
Small businesses today are at a major disadvantage in the global markets for many different reasons. I find that small businesses today are less likely to be as technologically advanced as the big businesses because not all small businesses have their products advertised online. This causes their revenue to rely solely on the surrounding communities rather than be reached globally. Most small businesses do not possess a strong knowledge of the internet, and aren’t always aware of the benefits of the internet and how much online advertising would boost their profits. Another way that small businesses are at a disadvantage to the global market is that they struggle with meeting the competitive prices of a bigger business. Being a small business usually means that the cost of the items sold are usually close to what they are currently setting as the sale price, and they are barely breaking even on their profits.
2: Business Ethics and Values
What are three ways a business demonstrates corporate social responsibility? Provide at least one real world example.
2
One way that businesses can demonstrate corporate social responsibility is by helping their employees further their education. Helping or offering scholarships is one way of helping employees with this. Another way that businesses could demonstrate corporate social responsibility is by allowing their employees with time off for them to volunteer at activities that help the community they live in. Charitable events are important in trying to help social poverty. Allowing their employees to help the homeless by volunteering for a few hours by giving them paid days off, could be one way of a business demonstrating their corporate social responsibility.
Lastly, businesses could demonstrate corporate social responsibility by going
green. Meaning that businesses are reducing their carbon footprint by helping
conserve natural resources. An example of this would be a company choosing to use
recycled materials for their bags that are used in bagging the items that are
purchased at their business.
One real world experience of businesses demonstrating corporate social
responsibility that I have seen, is that most businesses are promoting equality in the
workplace. Businesses are now promoting inclusion and diversity to have equality
among their employees. Businesses are no longer prejudiced against one race and
do not hold one ethnicity above the next. Everyone has equal opportunity in being
hired at businesses.
