Assignment 4
Malicious software, also known as malware, is a broad moniker given to any program or
file that has intentions to harm a computer, server, or network (Lutkevich, 2022). Malware
fulfills this intention through multiple means, all depending on the target and the type of
malware. Malware varies on type but also damage from almost benign to disastrous, costing
billions of dollars of damage in some cases (Rains, 2020). Malware is delivered to systems in multiple ways. These ways can include physical
devices, through phishing attempts, and other forms of obfuscation. Forms of malware include
viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, and adware. For the most part, malware types indicate how
they spread and how they get onto devices. For instance, viruses spread by infecting other
programs on the system and trojan horses disguise themselves as other, trusted applications or
software. However, some forms of malware have designated purposes and effect specific parts of
networks, systems, and computers (Lutkevich, 2022). The processes of a system, when affected, hinder the operability of the system, or slow it
down to frustrating levels. When dealing with this issue, the malware involved is often a virus or
a worm. Malware damaging memory can have similar effects but may also involve the stealing
of information. Trojan’s may have varying functions that go into action once they gain their
intended access (Rains, 2020). Malware is dangerous and can be spread like a wildfire. To
protect a system, network, or computer, understanding these threats and remaining vigilant is
always key.

To influence the purchasing agent in his or her decision, vendors may grant the agent financial favors (cash, presents, football tickets, and so on). This activity can result in orders being placed with vendors that supply inferior products or charge excessive prices.
Required: Describe the controls that an organization can employ to deal with kickbacks. Classify each control as either preventive, detective, or corrective.
2. A recent survey of institutional investors reveals that most of them want corporate boards to be composed of at least 75 percent independent directors.

SCENARIO 2: Misleading for Good Purpose
Vince is the inspector in charge of their local police station. The police station building is in direct need of repairs, but hasn’t received any grants from the government for years. One day, a typhoon hits a nearby area that damages most of the houses and shops. Although Vince’s police station gets partially damaged, most of the structure remains intact. Due to the incident, the government will send a disaster assessment team to ascertain the level of damage and will provide relief money for the affected areas. The Deputy Superintendent Mr. Simon, orders Vince and says: “Hire some laborers and destroy the remaining structure of the police station building. When the disaster assessment team comes, tell them that the building collapsed because of the typhoon, and ask them to give priority in funding the rehabilitation of our police station. After all, it is one of the most important public offices in town.”

6.10. In August 2011, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx) suspended trading for
seven stocks after its news announcement website HKExnews was hit by a distributed
denial-of-service (DoS) attack. This site is the only online platform used by HKEx to
make announcement of the listed companies, and for their regulatory filings. There
were 1,463 listed companies, and 5,712 other types of securities, including warrants

Day 1/Chapter 1 Case Study: Guided Practice
WILLIAMS MACHINE TOOL COMPANY
For 85 years, the Williams Machine Tool Company had provided high-quality products to its
clients, becoming the third largest U.S.-based machine tool company by 1990. The company was
highly profitable and had an extremely low employee turnover rate. Pay and benefits were
excellent.
Between 1980 and 1990, the company's profits soared to record levels. The company's success
was due to one product line of standard manufacturing machine tools. Williams spent most of its
time and effort looking for ways to improve its bread-and-butter product line rather than to
develop new products. The product line was so successful that companies were willing to modify
their production lines around these machine tools rather than asking Williams for major
modifications to the machine tools.
By 1990, Williams Company was extremely complacent, expecting this phenomenal success
with one product line to continue for 20 to 25 more…

Henry Juszkiewicz, David Berryman, and Gary A. Zebrowski, bought the company for $5 million.
(Could Ownership of Gibson Change?, 2018) Many credit Juszkiewicz with restoring quality,
reinvigorating the product line and giving the company a future after the purchase. (Gnau, 2018)
Gibson moved the manufacture of its acoustic guitars to Bozeman, Montana in 1989 (Hunter, 2009)
where quality improvements lead to "the virtually universal reaction by players and collectors that
these new flattops were among the best that Gibson has ever made." (Gerken, 2006)
As part of CEO Juszkiewicz's strategy to turn Gibson into an audio-related lifestyle brand, Gibson
began to expand beyond the fretted instrument category with the acquisition of Slingerland
Drums (1994) and Baldwin Piano & Organ Company (2001). Purchase of Deutsche Wurlitzer (2005)
brought the Wurlitzer Jukebox and Vending Electronics to the company. The 2011 purchase of the
Stanton Group became the basis of a new division, Gibson Pro…
