The limited accessibility of mental health treatment is a prominent issue that has been recognized as a key obstacle inside the American healthcare system. The study topic that motivates more investigation pertains to the many obstacles hindering persons in the United States from obtaining prompt access to mental health care. This study examines the complex topic of hurdles that impede persons in the United States from getting mental health treatments in a timely manner, a matter of significant significance in the field of healthcare management. Introduction 1. Purpose The author has identified the lack of availability of mental health therapy as a significant obstacle inside the American healthcare system. The author acknowledges the existence of a substantial population that lacks sufficient access to mental healthcare treatments. 2. Topic The author's objective is to effectively elucidate the intricate nature of mental health care accessibility and its impact on the overall welfare of the populace. The limited availability of adequate mental healthcare can be attributed to various factors, including the prevalence of private insurance, the policies governing mental health coverage within private insurance plans, the specific insurance coverage chosen by individuals, the absence of medical insurance, and a lack of information regarding how to access mental health treatment. 3. Research question What are the many barriers that impede individuals in the United States from accessing timely mental health services? 1
The selection of this particular subject is motivated by personal interest, as well as its specific, quantitative nature, attainability, relevance, and temporal constraints. The study issue under consideration fulfills the criteria for a well-formulated topic for inquiry. 4. Variables The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has observed that the healthcare delivery and funding system is now undergoing a significant change. This transformation is occurring as information technology (IT) transitions from a model that focuses on individual episodes of treatment and payment based on services rendered, to a more comprehensive and integrated one that emphasizes the value of healthcare services provided. Variables play a vital role in research studies as they enable the quantification, measurement, and analysis of the components pertaining to the investigated topic. There are both independent and independent variables. In the context of the scholarly investigation into the obstacles impeding the timely utilization of mental health care within the United States, the author has discovered and explained the following factors: The dependent variable under investigation is the access to mental health services in a timely manner. The independent variable under investigation is the presence of barriers that impede individuals' access to mental health services. The moderating variable under consideration is the use of telehealth services. The mediating variable under consideration is the reduction of mental health stigma. The inclusion of demographic and geographic parameters introduces confounding variables, hence increasing the intricacy of the research. 2
The dependent variable under investigation is the access to mental health services in a timely manner. The variable that has been identified as the dependent variable in the study is "timely access to mental health services." The variable in question pertains to the principal result that wants to improve, with a specific emphasis on folks' capacity to swiftly acquire the mental health assistance they need. The measurement of timeliness is predicated upon several factors, including the mitigation of waiting periods for appointments, the augmentation of mental health service accessibility, and the expeditious provision of treatment under critical circumstances. The assessment includes metrics pertaining to temporal aspects, which evaluate the availability of mental health care. 5. Background The report titled "Mental Health America," which is available on the website mhanational.org, serves as a valuable example of a relevant resource that might be used in observational research. This study presents data on the quantity of mental health services available in all territories and states, the range of services given, and the respective use rates by people. The data from the website might be used to ascertain the barriers impeding individuals in the United States from accessing mental healthcare services. Literature Search 1. keywords and combinations The study focused on the following keywords: African American, Barriers, Quality, Accessing healthcare in a rural environment, and Urban environment. The analysis included key terms such as "obstacles to obtaining high-quality healthcare in rural regions.""Obstacles related to socioeconomic status, social factors, and geographic location that African Americans face when trying to access mental healthcare" and "The extent of health insurance coverage for 3
mental healthcare." The use of keywords and phrases was helpful in accessing material relevant to the study inquiry. 2. Databases The integrative review made use of electronic resources such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and Researchgate. PubMed, with its stringent standards and exclusive focus on academic literature, proved to be more dependable compared to Google Scholar and Researchgate. Both Google Scholar and Researchgate provide access to both published academic material and unpublished research. 3. Inclusion and Exclusion Magazines, news pieces, and blogs were omitted from the literature collection due to the integrated review's specific criteria. The literature sample included peer-reviewed journal papers. The final sample included only research papers pertaining to obstacles in accessing high-quality mental health services in both rural and urban environments. Methodology Analysis 1. Methodology This comprehensive review was prepared using a five-phase methodological analytical technique. The procedure included (a) formulating a descriptive research inquiry, (b) using internet databases to locate academic publications pertaining to the research question and relevant topics using appropriate keywords and phrases. The process involves evaluating the collected data and establishing criteria for inclusion or exclusion, interpreting the selected literature, and presenting an integrative review. This approach is characterized by its simplicity and efficiency at several stages of the research process, including data processing, interpretation, 4
and the creation of a formal integrative review. Phase three requires enhancements in reducing the scope of inclusive criteria to concentrate on more precise aspects of the obstacles. The chosen research publications use a variety of research methodologies, such as population-based studies, topic briefs, and reports. Nicholas Combs (2021) conducted a population-based research using survey data to identify obstacles to healthcare access among persons in the United States who have mental health issues. The suitability of these strategies is contingent upon the research inquiry. In the instance of Nicholas Combs (2021), using a population-based strategy is consistent with the comprehensive nature of the investigation of healthcare accessibility. Nevertheless, Hemang Modi, in 2022, relies on an issue brief, which may not provide the same level of thoroughness as primary data collection approaches. To further improve this, integrating primary research might bolster the process. Nicholas Combs (2021) discusses the obstacles faced by U.S. individuals with mental health difficulties in accessing healthcare. The researchers conducted a cross-sectional study using data acquired from the 2017–2018 National Health Interview Survey. The categorization of MHC encompasses three separate levels: absence of psychological distress (NPD), moderate psychological distress (MPD), and severe psychological distress (SPD). Eight impediments were evaluated, and the primary outcome was the National University Student Count (NUSC). The use of multivariable logistic regression was employed to assess the associations between the aforementioned components. The results: The research cohort included 50,103 adult participants. 95.6% of persons reported facing obstacles while trying to receive healthcare services, while 13.3% reported not being able to use these services because of these hurdles. The prevalence of each barrier was highest among those diagnosed with social personality disorder (SPD) and lowest among those diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). 5
