________ Hint: Do Not be Vague Lab #1 Identification v. Individualization Part A: Comparing Beakers Objective: (overall purpose)
The purpose is to compare the difference between each beaker that individualizes them from each other. Q1:
Knowing the beakers come from the same lot and box, what are your expectations about the likelihood of their being identical? The likelihood of them being identical would be because they come from the same lot and the same box with the same manufacturers. Data: (complete description)
Specimen #1 is It’s a small beaker with measurements through 20ml to 150mllisted as “Approximate volume” painted out on it in white. There are paints chipped off from the 140ml and the 150ml. It also has a slight fade on some of the numbers. It also has a white paint box that is labeled “SP #9”. There are scratches left from stirring liquid in the beaker. It also has residue from being used leaving white uncleaned stains in the beaker. Diagram
Specimen #2 is (individual identification) It’s a small beaker 3.2in long, 2.8imches wide. It has labeled measurements from 20-140ml (approx. vol). it has residue from previous use. It has “150ml Kimax USA”, “No 1400” and is labeled “SP #10”. Has a fade in the writing for “approx. vol.”. Diagram

Keyon and Jarred performed the following experiment:
A piece of magnesium was placed on a watch glass; the watch glass and magnesium together weighed 2.00 g.
They burned the magnesium and it produced bright light, smoke, heat and a white residue. They then weighed
the white residue on the watch glass. Watch glass with residue weighed 2.25 g. From this information, they
reached separate conclusions:
1
Keyon: The magnesium gained mass, but it was due to some type of problem with their measurements.
Jerrod: The extra mass had to come from the oxygen in the air; burning something always means it combines
with oxygen.
Which student has the best explanation for the gain in weight and why?
Keyon because the experiment should be done several times to make sure they are getting accurate
measurements.
Jerrod is correct because oxygen in the air added mass, by…

Review | Constants I Periodic Table
Percent composition refers to the mass percent of
each element in a compound:
mass of element
Part A
mass percent =
x 100%
mass of compound
>
For example, the percent composition of water, H2O.
is 11.2% hydrogen and 88.8% oxygen. Therefore, a
100-g sample of water contains 11.2 g of hydrogen
atoms and 88.8 g of oxygen atoms.
A hydrocarbon is a compound that contains mostly carbon and hydrogen. Calculate the percent
composition (by mass) of the following hydrocarbon: CH22
Enter the percentages of carbon and hydrogen numerically to four significant figures, separated by
commas.
The periodic table will be useful when doing this
problem. You can access a periodic table by clicking

Where TBM is the total body mass and LBM is the lean body mass. Do not let all these letters confuse you. Just remember DM is the dosing mass so this will end up being a number to put in another formula below. LBM is a number you would find out from a patient you might be about to give Heparin. And TBM is the same. We use these letters to remind us what those quantities represent.
2. If the patient is less than 70 years old, the loading dose is 80 Howell Units2 per kilogram of DM. One Howell Unit is equivalent to 0.0020 mg of pure heparin. Calculate how many mg of pure heparin is in 80 Howell Units. Do not worry about the kilograms of DM yet.
