Joan Umadia 2/24/22 Phong Thai - 513 Experiment 2 Lab Report : Who Has My Compound? Summary The lab’s purpose is to demonstrate the types of physical properties that can be used to determine the identity of an unknown compound. In this case we used the melting point data to compare and find who we shared the same compound with. Summary of results After determining the melting point and the solubility of the unknown, we were able to determine who else in the classroom had similar results. I tested the solubility of my unknown in sodium bicarbonate and ethanol and it was very soluble. My results were very similar to Madison, a mixture of our unknown’s melting point was in the range of 135- 138.5 degrees celsius. My unknown melting point only was 139 - 142 degrees celsius and Madison’s melting point range was between 149 - 153 degrees celsius. We determined our compound was Anthranllic. In conclusion The experiment was carried out well and the main purpose of the experiment, which was determining the unknown compound, was achieved. The melting point, solubility, TLC were all used to find a student with the same properties as mine. In the end, I was able to identify the compound which is Anthranllic.
