Forensic
Toxicologist
What they
do
Summarize the next task we have
to
do
in
regards
to
Anna’s
autopsy.
Write 2-3 sentences in order to
relate each of these terms to one
another. Highlight each term. Use
your own words. Terms: Digestive
System, forensic toxicologist,
medical examiner, samples, toxin,
poison.
Why we need toxicology
tests
Could a chemical in the lab
where
she was found have caused
Anna’s death
? Is it possible that
she ingested something that
harmed her?
1.2.3. Forensic Toxicology
Looking for a Needle in a Haystack
Investigate what substances that could
have been in her system at the time of her
death. Potential harmful substances or
particularly toxins.
A
forensic
toxicologist
analyzes
the
contents in the
digestive system
. During an
autopsy, the
medical examiner
collects
samples
to check for
toxins
or
poison
.
To correctly determine the
substances within a body and the
effects they may have on humans
They look for poisons or
toxins in the body to study
and figure out how they
affect people
Physical vs. Chemical
Digestion:
Write 2-3 sentences in order to relate each of
these terms to one another. Highlight each
term. Use your own words. Terms: digestion,
nutrients, molecules, waste, chemical
reactions, energy.
Label each diagram as to whether it represents chemical or physical digestion.
Describe what each kind of digestion is and where it occurs.
Digesting the Digestive System
We eat and drink water and food substances for
energy, when we eat we digest the food to absorb
through chemical reactions, the molecules that give
us energy and power our body parts, the parts of
the food that are needed or leftover are excreeted
as waste.
Physical, the solid form and how we
perceive it, While there are many chemical
parts in it we perceive it as a different thing
such as a sandwich, this is also how the
digestion process begins
Chemical digestion: what the
substances are made of, the body cuts
out and used the parts that would
power and be useful to the body
Forensic
Chemist
What they test
Write a sentence to relate these terms. Use
your own words. Terms: metabolism,
metabolites, tissues, ingested chemicals.
In the boxes, list & describe each section of the
digestive system shown above in the order in which
materials pass through them.
The 2 kinds of tests they run
Inside Anna’s Stomach
Esophagus- muscular tube that
transports food from mouth
Stomach - contains acids and
enzymes
and contracts to break down food
Small intestine- break down food
molecules and absorbs digested
nutrients
Large intestine- reabsorbs water and
forms feces to be released from the
body
Metabolism
is the process of breaking down
substances and converting to new substances. The
small molecules produced are called
metabolites
.Toxicologists test samples of bodily
fluids and/or
tissues
for
ingested chemicals
in the
body.
Oral cavity - is the first part of the
digestive tract.
A forensic chemist is a professional chemist who
analyzes evidence that is brought in from crime scenes
and reaches a conclusion based on tests run on that
piece of evidence.
Presumptive tests and
confirmatory tests.

This assignment is designed to help you learn how to
determine total costs by combining direct and indirect
costs for a particular department.
In this GHA, you will be determining the total costs for
three departments: (1) Physical Therapy (2)
Occupational Therapy and (3) Speech Therapy.
To determine the total costs, you will need to add the
direct costs to the indirect costs using the template
provided below.
Please use the example provided in the assignment
description if you find that you need some support
understanding the required calculations.
DIRECT COSTS
The direct costs for each department are easily
identifiable, because they are the costs that are directly
attributable to the department.
The direct costs are as follows:
Physical Therapy (PT)
Occupational Therapy (OT)
Speech Therapy (ST)
Total Direct Costs
INDIRECT COSTS
The indirect costs will need to be allocated to Physical
Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), and Speech
Therapy (ST).
The indirect costs in this…

Methods of Analysis
Test #1: Polarity, or Effect of a charged rod on a stream of liquid:
This test was used to determine the relative polarity of the unknown liquid. The liquid was allowed to run out of a buret and a charged rod was brought up next to the stream. The observations were reported as to whether or not the stream of liquid responded to the charged rod and to what degree.
Try this at home with water and a plastic spoon. Rub the plastic spoon against a sweater and move it close to a small stream of water running out of your faucet!
Test #2: Volatility, or Rate of Evaporation:
A thermometer probe was wrapped with a strip of filter paper. This assembly was soaked in one of the liquids for one minute. The probe was removed, and the temperature change was monitored as the liquid evaporated. The results are given in Graph 1 below. (See Graph)
Graph 1: The curves generated of the change in temperature over time for the substances acetone, hydrogen monoxide, ethylene glycol,…

Olympic athletes are tested to see whether or not they are using illegal performance-enhancing drugs. Suppose that urine samples are taken and analyzed, and the rate of false positive results is 1%. Suppose also that it is too expensive to refine the method to reduce the rate of false positive results. We certainly do not want to accuse innocent people of using illegal drugs. What can you do to reduce the rate of false accusations even though the test always has a false positive rate of 1%?

Please don't copy I am completing an online lab so I will try to provide the needed information to solve. Please let me know if any information is missing.
We started with 20 mL 1 M acetic acid ~ 0.020 L acetic acid in a flask.
(Ka acetic acid = 1.8x10^-5; pKa = 4.7) (Kb ammonia = 1.8x10^-5; pKb = 4.7; Ka = 5.56x10^-10; pKa = 9.25)
We titrated with 1 M Ammonia have to calculate the pH mathematically at different amounts of Ammonia added. Our Ammonia amounts are 8 mL, 16 mL, 20 mL, and 22 mL.
We then have to find the percent difference of the online labs pH calculations.
Online Lab's Values:
8 mL Ammonia - pH of 4.58
16 mL Ammonia - pH of 5.36
20 mL Ammonia - pH of 6.99 (equivalence point in the lab)
22 mL Ammonia - pH of 8.24
I would greatly appreciate if you could show for all 4 of the amounts of Ammonia added, and show how you did them.
Thank you! Will gladly upvote if work is shown!
