HLTPAT006 - AT2 Observation
STUDENT INSTRUCTION
You will be observed by your assessor in a simulated environment performing a task to the required standard as outlined in the appropriate unit of competency. This will involve the use of a role play or case study to establish the context for assessment and this specific information will be provided by your assessor prior to the assessment taking place.
It is important ensure you read and understand all observable criteria for the associated demonstration including role plays or scenarios on which you will be observed. If any point is unclear please seek clarification from your Assessor. Please ensure you are familiar with the key criteria your assessor will be looking for during the assessment process.
Assessment Conditions
The below Observation Assessments
will be undertaken in a Simulated Pathology Collection Centre
. Please refer to Learner and Assessment Guide for a full list of Resources provided. These Assessments will be completed during class time and your Assessor will provide the required PPE prior to the assessment taking place. Each Assessment will take approximately 5 - 10 minutes and your Assessor will ensure you are aware
of the Assessment time prior. There may be occasions when the proposed assessment date is altered based on the number of students in a group. Your assessor will coordinate this for you. You will be provided with the below equipment as required to undertake the Assessment task.
pipettes
aliquot pots
personal protective equipment (PPE)
contaminated waste disposal
fridge
dryer
temperature controls

Description of the task to be observed:
Task: At the end of this practical the student is expected to successfully demonstrate the correct Aliquoting procedure as demonstrated in class.
Specimen 1:
You are required to aliquot a sample from an SST/GEL tube for transportation.
HLTPAT006 - AT2 Observation
Though very few SST tubes require you to spin and aliquot, this observation demonstrates your understanding of requirements associated with aliquoting. In this scenario there are no specific transport requirements
During the activity, the student is required to satisfactorily demonstrate required skills though completion of the observable task/s. Observable Task Assessment Criteria
MR

O1.1 Handling of the specimen Ensure specimen is fully clotted.
Ensure correct balancing of centrifuge
Ensure centrifuge is set for correct speed/time
O1.2 Safety Demonstrate correct usage of safety equipment
Demonstrate correct labelling of aliquot tube
Demonstrate correct and safe aliquoting of specimen
O1.3 Recording Equipment is disposed of in a safe manner
Prepare specimen for transport appropriate to the above test requested.
Read and record the specimen fridge mean daily max: mean daily min: current temp:
Q4 What is the minimum time for an SST to allow to clot?
Q5 a What speed (RPM) is a centrifuge set at?
Q5b What time (min) will a centrifuge run for? Q6. What minimum PPE is required when completing this procedure?

Fred and Martina, senior agents at an airline security checkpoint, carry out advanced screening procedures for hundreds of randomly selected passengers per day. For a random sample of 30 passengers recently processed by Fred, the mean processing time was 124.5 seconds, with a standard deviation of 20.4 seconds. For a random sample of 36 passengers recently processed by Martina, the corresponding mean and standard deviation were 133.0 seconds and 38.7 seconds, respectively. Using the 0.05 level of significance, can we conclude that the population mean processing times for Fred and Martina could be the same? Use Unequal-Variances T-Test.

The Haddon Matrix is a used commonly used, two-dimensional model used to analyze safety through
three phases of a crash (pre-crash, crash, post-crash). The matrix provides insight into the range of
possible safety issues that may have led to the crash and helps engineers propose appropriate safety
countermeasures.

Use the following crash to fill out a Haddon Matrix:
A single vehicle crashed on I-84 west in Willington at 1:38pm in March of 2024. The weather conditions
for that day were rainy, leading to wet road surfaces and poor visibility. The driver of the 2015 Dodge
Charger was speeding when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the center median. The vehicle
had "disabling damage" and the driver remained on scene until emergency services arrived. Investigators
say that the vehicle had "bald tires" at the time of the crash.

Q5/ The structural engineering design section within the engineering
department of a regional electrical utility corporation has developed
several standard designs for a group of similar transmission line towers.
The detailed design for each tower is based on one of the standard designs.
A transmission line project involving 50 towers has been approved. The
estimated number of engineering hours needed to accomplish the first
detailed tower design is 126. Assuming a 95% learning curve,
a. What is your estimate of the number of engineering hours needed to
design the eighth tower and to design the last tower in the project?
b. What is your estimate of the cumulative average hours required for the
first five designs?

Indicate whether the following statements are true or false.
The quality of a visual inspection is affected primarily by; i) The quality of the detector (eye or
camera), ii) The lighting conditions, iii) The capability to process the visual data, iv) The level of
training and attention to detail
Visual inspection is a very simple and basic method; therefore, it is not considered as one of
the commonly employed NDT methods.
The two phases involved in applying the maturity method to estimate the in-situ strength of
concrete are i) Laboratory testing and ii) Field measurement of the in-place temperature
history
Optical aids such as mirrors, magnifiers and comparators are often used as a tool of visual
inspection.
The most popular nondestructive test used on concrete structures is the rebound hammer
test.
The two parameters needed in the Nurse-Saul Maturity Function is Apparent Activation
Energy and Datum Temperature.
Visual inspection is simple to perform, low in cost and relatively…
