The social science issue that I am researching for my project is video games and social interaction. I would like to focus this topic more on the effects of video games and one's mental health due to playing certain games. So far in my research many articles have had data that both proves
video games being beneficial for coping with stress, anxiety and depression, while other articles have had data that proves video games negatively affecting someone that already has anger issues, and issues with addiction. The research question that I choose for my topic is: How do different age ratings of video games impact someone's mental health? My research question pertains to the social sciences because my question is about how different age groups are being affected by game ratings (Ratings: E - everyone, T - teens, M - 18+). Whether or not people suffer consequences from playing video games, there is still a role that it plays in building social relationships with people around them. As we normalize video games in our everyday culture, an example being the very popular game Among us, even if it positively or negatively affects someone’s mental health we as society should bring awareness to how someone should use video games to cope with their mental health without causing other issues.
