Change Initiative A successful change initiative that has taken place within my organization is implementing a new
student support tutoring program. This tutoring program targets students who need additional
academic support. They are matched with tutors to help them in the areas they are having
problems in. Roles and Responsibilities School administrators, teachers, and students can all be identified as internal stakeholders.
School administrators provide the necessary resources and support, set goals, and evaluate the
effectiveness of the program. Teachers play a big role by identifying the students who need extra
academic support and referring them to tutoring programs. Students are responsible for actively
participating in the tutoring program. They also have the role of taking ownership of their
learning by completing assignments and practicing the skills they are being taught. External
stakeholders included community members and parents. Parents are responsible for encouraging
their children to participate in the program and monitoring their child’s progress. The community
member's role is to provide additional resources and support by providing funding and recruiting
volunteer tutors such as college students or retired teachers. NSBA Framework Assessments: In Mississippi students in high school are required to take MAAP testing at the end
of the school year for certain subjects. Throughout the school year, we use assessments that the
students take as data to track where they are in reference to scoring basic minimal, passing,
proficient, or advanced. Students that are projected to be borderline passing that attend tutor can
put them over to passing. Accountability: Ensuring that everyone plays their role to have a successful outcome from the
tutoring programs. Continuous improvement: Wanting to help our students do their best in their class as well as help
them learn the information needed to pass the state assessment on the first try. Finding better
resources and having teachers and tutors who are effectively teaching students. My Role in the Change Initiative My role in the change initiative was to identify the students within my class who needed the
extra help especially to prepare for the state test at the end of the school year. Also, I monitor if
the tutoring is helping those students who are actively participating in the program. Factors that affected the success of the change initiative
Factors that affected the success of this change initiative were having adequate resources,
effectively communicating amongst all stakeholders, student engagement, the quality of tutors,
and the evaluation and feedback of how the program is succeeding.
