Discuss at least one potential drawback of Sabeti's approach that you want to see
her address in future presentations, publications, or research
A. Pardis Sabeti delivered a captivating TED talk that held my attention throughout, leaving me eager for more insights. While her exploration of a social science issue stemmed from the 2014 Ebola outbreak, its relevance to the current Covid-19 pandemic is striking. The United States is currently grappling with divergent opinions on how to effectively manage the spread
and flatten the curve. Collaboratively adhering to research-backed guidelines and heeding the
advice of scientists could potentially mitigate the occurrence of multiple surges.
B. Sabeti methodically presented her social science issue in a clear and coherent manner. Starting with an introduction to social norms and then progressing to social institutions and available resources, she facilitated the audience's comprehension of the significance of the social science issue she presented.
C. Having absorbed Sabeti's TED talk, I sense a personal connection to the issue she discussed. The social science matter she addressed appears to be unfolding amidst the current
Covid-19 pandemic, making it directly relevant to my own experiences.
D. A potential concern with Sabeti's approach that warrants future attention is the elimination
of the peer-review process in publication. This omission introduces the possibility of questioning the reliability and accuracy of the data, which could result in errors in the research.
Module Five Question 2
Who is the audience of Pardis Sabeti's TED Talk? Focus not only on the audience shown when the camera cuts away from the stage but also on Sabeti's message and how she chooses to present this message. Who does it seem like she's talking to? What evidence do you rely on to help answer this question?
Sabeti's intended audience encompasses fellow healthcare professionals, scientists, and individuals involved in epidemiology data collection. When underscoring the significance of her social science issue, she employs pronouns like 'us' and employs hand gestures to convey inclusivity, indicating that she is addressing not only herself but also everyone present in the auditorium.
Module Five Question 3
How does Pardis Sabeti tailor the message of her presentation to her audience?
Pardis Sabeti customizes her presentation's message for her audience by incorporating industry-specific terminology, sharing relatable personal experiences from her field, and subsequently elucidating the outcomes derived from her data collection efforts.
