I received a score of 78 for the self-evaluation. I am considered above average but could improve in some areas. In selecting my responses, I was immediately drawn to some strategies. These were strategies that I could quickly identify as being absent, or minimal, from my presentation planning process. I am driven by the feelings or nervousness and anxiety; those typically fuel me. Couple that with my outgoing personality, I often feel prepared. This evaluation provided a grounding moment for me. There is absolutely an opportunity for me to rehearse my presentation in advance of presenting. I am also lacking the overview of contents covered to close out the presentation. In my role as a Customer Service Manager, I am often presenting new processes. It would be beneficial to my audience to end the presentation ensuring they could now successfully meet/understand the objectives of the meeting.
There are multiple techniques that can be leveraged in professional presentations. Understanding the impact of an ineffective presentation can position you for greater success in online settings. It is critical to understand your audience prior to choosing the information being
shared. You must be careful not to overload the audience. You should also be attentive to your delivery to ensure you are speaking to be heard and understood (Chan, J.F., 1999). One step I can take to improve professional presentations is in the planning process. This should include running through the presentation to confirm timing as well as confirming the technology being used is free from issues. These adjustments can drive a successful presentation that demonstrates I value my audience’s time.
