QUESTION: You will share your understanding of primary and secondary audiences with your classmates and how this understanding impacts your business report. The purpose of this discussion topic is to allow you to reflect on your audience for your final research-based report and to see how your fellow students' concept of audience may have impacted their reports. Please respond to the following items. Post your responses to these items to this discussion topic. Please conduct a search on the terms primary audience and secondary audience. List two sources you found and how they defined these two terms. For your research-based report, who is the primary audience? Who is the secondary audience? Does the secondary audience impact how you write the report? Please explain why or why not. ANSWERS: 1. The primary audience is the central group of individuals or individual for which a message, product, or content is specifically created and intended. To address these individuals, the content is carefully tailored to meet their specific needs, preferences, and/or characteristics. Understanding and identifying the primary audience is important for the success of communication, as well as for marketing and product placement efforts. The secondary audience, however, is comprised of other individuals who may not be the primary target but still have the potential to be influenced by or receive the message intended for the primary audience. The secondary audience may share some of the same characteristics and interests with the primary group, creating content that relates with both primary and secondary audiences can widen the impact of communication and improve overall effectiveness. 2. The primary audience for my report is the CYS Coordinator and the secondary audience would be likely be the CYS Manager and/or Director as they are both higher authorities within the business hierarchy.
3. Yes. When writing any report or memo within a business environment, one should always keep in mind that anyone within the hierarchy may be in the audience. Sources: Bartsiokas, T., & Smith, J.
