Audience Information: People within my department, and eventually higher ups Audience Considerations: different roles within the department, potential concerns and challenges of remote work, varying experience with technology and remote work. Introduction Attention Getter: Where were you in 2020 when the world shut down due to COVID? Were you considered an essential worker, or did you get laid off? Some people got the chance to remotely work from home, which shifted the way Americans work. Body Main Point One: My first key point is the effectiveness of remote work policies Sub-point: When thinking of remote work, we need to think about how to communicate virtually. Whether it be through telephone, zoom meetings, conference calls, etc., quality communication is key. This could be a potential con to remote work, as it can create distrust and problems within the workplace. Sub-point: On the other hand, remote work can be good for people who need a semi- flexible schedule. Like, if your child gets sick you do not have to necessarily find childcare, but then this can lead to decreased productivity. Transition: Now that we have talked about the effectiveness of remote work, lets talk about the damages on a person’s mental health and productivity. Main Point Two: While working remotely can have its advantages, there is also many disadvantages to remote work, for example causing harm to a person’s mental health and decreasing work productivity. Sub-point: When the world shut down in 2020, people were forced into remote work, and this caused harm on their mental health.
