Discussion 2-1 Effective Communication Reflect on your work experience or research recent news articles about organizational communication. Identify a situation where you think an organization or brand may have miscommunicated a message to its employees or other stakeholders. Perhaps management made a change in processes and did not communicate the change or the reason for the change to employees at all levels. When describing the scenario, identify the specific problems and issues that should be addressed with communications, and explain why the issue is substantial enough to warrant communications. In responses to your peers, assume the role of the target audience (i.e., employees) and discuss how implementing communications to address the problems your peers' identified could impact the situations for better or for worse. Use specific examples to support your responses, if possible. HI class, As I reflect on my past work experience, I have one recent situation that stands out in my mind. So according to Office of Personnel Management (OPM) since COVID started we were on permanent telework, where we did not have to go into the office at all. As of August 2022, OPM changed the policy that we had to go into the office 2 times a pay period. The agency I work for stated that we would have to come into the office every Monday to abide by the policy. The policy OPM provided did not state a specific day, you had the option to choose the days. So, people though if you go in the office on those days you were covered. Some employees would go into the office and leave early or take PTO thinking that they were abiding by the policy. Within the OPM policy there were not days listed within the policy it was hour. We have to have a total of 16 hours in the office to adhere to the policy This miscommunication has made issues and many employees
have to make up time to appear within the office on another day to satisfy the policy. The problem is that the human resources within my agency did not relay the information correctly. By stating that employees have to come into the office once a week and not indicating that is has to be 16 hours for two weeks, it confused the supervisors to the employees because there is no guidelines on which one is correct. The reason why this is a substantial and warrants communication is because all agency has to abide by the Telework and in office policy provided by OPM. Each employee has to follow the rules and each agency has to abide by the OPM policy that governs all government agencies. Layapole
