In our school where I am a public preschool teacher, we have S.W.I.M. expectations for the students to behave schoolwide (Developing Classroom Rules, n.d.). Which of these are non-negotiable rules (Developing Classroom Rules, n.d.). We are Safe, we are Kind, We Include Everyone, and We make Responsible choices.
In my classroom we use these non-negotiable rules every day.
We are Safe is a nonnegotiable rule. The students are to have a safe learning environment for them to learn in (How to Create a Safe Classroom Environment Using Respect, n.d.). The classroom is to be a nonjudgemental classroom. In my classroom we use positive praise and positive reinforcement.
We are kind to everyone. In the classroom we want all students to respect oneself, peers, teachers, and the learning environment to create a culture of respect in the classroom (Wolfe, 2023). Encouraging all students and teachers to be kind helps to foster a positive and supportive learning environment where the students feel they are valued and appreciated (Wolfe, 2023).
We Include everyone. Having an inclusive school and classroom with the belief that all students, regardless of label, should be included in the classroom and school (Inclusive Classroom|Reading Rockets, n.d.).
We make responsible choices and give the students the choice on how they want to act in and out of the
classroom. When students have choices in the classroom increase the student’s effort, task performance,
and subsequent learning (Merrill, 2021). Teachers are to allow the students some room for the student to make their own (responsible) choices in their classroom (Driscoll, 2023).
The difference between the non-negotiable rules and the classroom rules is the non-negotiable rules cannot be broken or changed (Using rules for Discipline that works, 2018), The classroom values are the attitudes and behaviors that schools and teachers define as important in promoting their students (Chance, 2023) in an inclusive culture classroom.
Having non-negotiable rules is essential in the classroom so everyone follows them. In our school we give out sand dollars to the students when we catch them making the right choices. Then we went to the
Sand dollar store. So, the kids know what the dollar is for. The teacher explains for example “I loved how Ms. Jacobs class listened, they followed the rules, and were respectful, so everyone earned a sand dollar.
Then the children put the dollars in a special spot in the classroom. The teacher then sets up a day for the kids to spend their sand dollar at the Sand dollar store.
Classroom values is essential in the classroom to help all the students who come from different ethnic and culture backgrounds to learn to interact in more balanced manner in and out of the classroom (Important of Teaching Values and Ethics to Primary Students, n.d.).

Discussion #2
First, I will address the diverse needs in my classroom by getting to know (Drexel University School of Education, n.d.) every student in my classroom. I work at a public preschool. In my school it is a requirement that teachers make home visits. Teachers must go on home visits before the students are able to start school. Teachers need to know where the student comes from. What type of home environment are they coming from? So, teachers can meet the students’ needs at school. Teachers are also required to go on home visits in the middle of the year. The second home visit is to visit the home and talk over the child’s progress in school and home.
I maintain consistent communication (Drexel University School of Education, n.d.) with the parents. I am required to reach out to the students’ parents when the students have missed one day of school. To check on the students and see why they are not at school. I also must reach out to my family engagement if the student has missed more than one day of school. I also use my classroom ClassDojo (ClassDojo, 2019) to communicate with my students’ parents. ClassDojo (ClassDojo, 2019) is an app the parent downloads and it is only to the parents I include in the app. We do Kid of the Day, so we post pictures of the students on ClassDojo (ClassDojo, 2019). If we have
any special event, we post on ClassDojo (ClassDojo, 2019). We also take pictures throughout the day of the students and post them on ClassDojo (ClassDojo, 2019).
Also, all lessons and topics incorporate diversity into the lesson plans (Drexel University School of Education, n.d.). We use all the different diverse books that we read to the students. We have different
