It is essential for teachers to promote open communication with parents, their schools’ administrators, and colleagues. Burden (2020) states that “teacher talk can positively or negatively affect just about everything in the classroom” (p. 101). Two ways to promote open communication with parents include conducting parent-teacher conferences and utilizing a class website. Parent-teacher conferences are a great way to provide open communication with parents. These parent-teacher conferences are ways to work and discuss different strategies to help students, as well as ways you can praise students for their accomplishments. Using a class website is a great way to communicate with the parents of your entire class. Class websites can include school calendars, policies, and special events in your classroom.
It is imperative to have an excellent working relationship with your school staff. This includes principals, vice principals, and more. To help promote open communication between teachers and the administration staff, everyone should always be open to feedback, whether it be someone
getting celebrated for something or constructive criticism. If either party is in a space where they cannot accept feedback, it will not be an appropriate way to promote open communication. The other way to promote open communication with administrators is by tackling major issues or behavioral problems together. This is a great way to show true teamwork. By working together, you and your administration team can use your strengths to serve students and their families best.
Like administrators, having a great working relationship with your colleagues is imperative. Engaging in professional development activities with colleagues is a great way to promote open communication. Professional development activities give you the skills to do your job better. During these professional development activities, you and your colleagues work together to hone
existing skills and learn new ones. Another way to promote open communication is by collaborating. Burder (2020) states that “collaboration is a style of interaction between individuals engaged in shared decision-making as they work toward a common goal” (p. 221). Collaborating is a great way to work with different people to produce different results. Collaborative communication is vital for developing classroom management because open communication improves behavior and attitude and sets the foundation for the classroom. Building strong student-teacher relationships begins with open communication between all parties. Once communication is set, with classroom management, you can adequately provide a positive learning environment for your students. (394)

Hello Amber, great job on your discussion post for this week! This week’s discussion topic was informative, and it showed how effective it is for teachers to promote open communication not only to families but also to their administration and colleagues. Burden (2020) states that “teacher talk can positively or negatively affect just about everything in the classroom” (p. 101). There are so many ways in which teachers can communicate with families. This communication between families and teachers will keep families updated on their children’s progress at school. I also believe that parent-teacher conferences are a great way to discuss students’ goals and the improvements they are making. These conferences are also an effective way to build positive relationships between families and teachers. Communication with the administration is essential for things to function correctly. Teachers and administration being open to feedback will ultimately promote open communication. Collaboration between colleagues is imperative for teachers. As you stated in your discussion post, a collaborative environment enables educators to learn from one another, which is ultimately the purpose of collaboration. With collaboration, colleagues share a common goal to work together and hone their skills for the betterment of their
students.
