Identify the techniques you can implement to improve the likelihood that your communications will be received and understood as you intended when utilizing one of the technology mediums, such as Zoom, Skype, email, text messages, or the telephone.
I would look at my intended audience first. For example, if a teacher is using zoom or skype their
intended audience would be for young children. In order for the children to understand what is going on, the teachers could already have it in writing for them to read the material. For the younger generation, the teachers may have to directly read everything to them for those who may
be unable to read on their own. The older generation may be more advanced, but sometimes written and verbal instructions are beneficial as well. Some children could have impairments. You want to make sure all children are accommodated to their specific needs. When sending emails and text messages I would ensure that I am being as understandable as possible and to let the receiver know that we could also speak over the phone if they didn’t understand what was said in the email and/or text message. ●
Describe two checks that could be put in place prior to sending a communication
that could help with selecting the proper communication channel. One check that could be put in place is face to face conversations. The sender should always want to make sure that what they are saying is being communicated effectively. “
The sender should be aware of potential barriers, engage in empathy for the audience, remain aware of nonverbal cues being transmitted, and seek confirmation that receivers correctly receive and interpret the intended message” (Baack, D., 2021, p 3.2). Another check that could be put into place is written communication. Although written communication could be miscommunicated, it’s still best to have things in writing so that the receiver could look back on it if needed and it also covers for the sender. ●
Explain how the proper communication channel selection can reduce or increase
the effectiveness in addressing diverse audiences.
The proper communication channel selection could increase the effectiveness in addressing diverse audiences because you could learn techniques such as not speaking too fast if you are a fast talker like myself. It may be best to avoid using slang when speaking with a diverse culture. Body language and eye contact is also very important when speaking with a diverse audience. Sometimes individuals from a different culture will take offense at someone's body language, on the other hand the sender may think it's okay because their culture understands that it is not offensive.
