WRITING ASSESSMENT 1 DRWA-8880G Writing Assessment 11/4/2024 Doctoral Writing Assessment Completing a doctoral program is a rigorous and demanding endeavor that comes with its own set of challenges. I anticipate facing several obstacles during my doctoral journey. Firstly, managing the extensive workload and balancing research, coursework, and other commitments poses a significant challenge. Additionally, maintaining a healthy work-life balance to prevent burnout is crucial. After reading the required article, some challenges I might face as I complete my Ph.D. program at Walden are procrastination, a work-life balance, and studying for my BCBA exam. In the past, I have struggled with believing in myself because I have always been the minority in college and at my workplace. Nelson (2011) described impostor syndrome as "the crippling feelings of self-doubt and anticipated failure that haunt people who attribute their success to luck or help from others rather than their abilities" (p. 129). When completing assignments, I fear my voice being overlooked or my confidence in myself being shut down by others. I am also a full-time employee. I work with kids diagnosed with autism, so I am constantly on my feet. When I get home from work, I struggle to complete daily tasks such as cleaning or walking my dog. The article states, "The final barrier to successful doctoral completion relates to overall productivity. Because graduate students are, on average, older, they often balance expectations of family, friends, community or civic involvement, and careers. Therefore, finding dedicated dissertation time can prove to be a barrier”, (Ondrusek, 2012). This will cause some challenges with my studies here at Walden University.
WRITING ASSESSMENT 2 This dual commitment to my doctoral studies at Walden University and my pursuit of becoming a Board- Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) presents a unique set of challenges. As I delve into the complexities of coursework and assignments, I must also grapple with the extensive preparation required for the BCBA exam. An illustrative example of this challenge is the potential overlap between the content covered in my academic studies and the specific domains outlined in the BCBA exam. From now on, I will create a plan to ensure my strategies are victorious. The article states, “Next, self- awareness is critical at the dissertation phase. Students need to remain committed to the process by clearly understanding their motivations” (Marshall, S. M., Klocko, B., & Davidson, J. (2017). I will create a plan to manage my work and study for my board exam. This can be as simple as splitting up my available hours, by studying half, and completing schoolwork on the other half. Another thing I have started is words of affirmation to build my confidence in myself and to help me believe I can do anything I put my mind to. It is also essential to create a bond with my professors and classmates. I will contact my professors whenever I am in doubt and use resources offered by classmates through discussion boards. As a new student, I am working my way around Canvas and seeing what resources are provided to me. I can work towards these goals by introducing myself to my professors by email. I can find classmates that may be in the same state as me and become study buddies. I plan to put all my personal and professional goals on the same calendar to balance my days out and still be able to have a social life outside of schoolwork. I have access to EBSCO, so in my free time I can look up any research articles for fun to learn to read more scholarly articles. This will also help me familiarize myself with more intelligent writers. To conclude, as I navigate the challenges inherent in completing a PhD program at Walden, I am equipped with the unwavering support of my family. By fostering strong connections with faculty members and fellow students, I am confident in my ability to stay on track. Through meticulous planning, I aim to strike a balance between my educational pursuits and personal life, utilizing tools such as a
