Hello, As I continue my educational journey and try to improve my digital communications as I enter my Interpersonal communication Skills personal profile, I face challenges at work as I connect with others worldwide with the company where I work through the Teams platform. Where I work, we cross-train with other branches from Australia, China, Australia, and others. Each department has its SME (Subject Matter Expert), and each one of the departments has an individual assigned to a specific task in the training matrix. A terrible challenge we run into is the starting time and initial setup for meetings since we all have different time zones. As we try to synchronize the meeting time and place for the meetings, the remote individuals not connected directly with Teams get a link to join and a time to log in. This also challenges the first-time joining colleagues with diverse issues such as connectivity and entering the password of the link to connect. This is not an easy password, and many copy and paste do not work since, on many occasions, this feature adds a space that makes the password incorrect. This is a standard indicator that digital communication, as easy as it is set to make our lives, can be troublesome. The company mitigated the issue by introducing a Team connection through mobile devices so team members can connect at any place at any time. It can also remind team members of the time the meeting will take place in their time zone. If the members cannot find a way to use their mobile devices, IT work orders can be submitted to help them set their phones up to accept Teams calls. I learned that technology can be as confusing as we people can be; with preparation and training, we can get everyone to take advantage of the open world of technology that mostly sits at our fingertips. Our text states, "Verbal communication is the primary currency in our digital
interaction with others" (Bevan, 2020). It shows that the need and accuracy of interpersonal communication influence our daily lives. Concluding this experience, I realized the importance of our necessity and dependency on effective communication in the workplace and the need for digital media in our day-to-day lives.
