Promoting Multicultural Education As schools become more diverse, strong emphasis is being placed on multiculturalism and culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy. Use at least three of the questions to guide an original post. Comment on the posts of at least two classmates. APA citations are required only in the original response. What is the difference, if any, between multiculturalism and cultural responsiveness? Is the official curriculum in your state, district, and school multicultural enough? Explain. What efforts have you made as an individual to make your teaching multicultural? Where do your efforts and those of your school place you among James Banks' levels of multicultural integration? “Leveling Up” Your Instruction with the Banks FrameworkLinks to an external site. How does UDL promote multicultural and culturally responsive teaching? A culturally responsive classroom empowers students by utilizing cultural content to build knowledge, skills, and attitudes of students (American College of Education, 2023b). Culturally responsive pedagogy builds student’s cultural knowledge by acknowledging, honoring, and respecting children for who they are and how they learn regardless of their diverse backgrounds (American College of Education, 2023b). Teachers can acknowledge, support, and get knowledgably to better understand how to support their students. I work hard to know the best learning styles for my students. I include multiple modalities of learning in each lesson that I teach. I may not be able to make every lesson kinesthetic, but I make sure I have different learning modalities. Lastly, I try to bring culturally diverse projects into the classroom. Students learn about different holidays like Diwali, Hannukah, and Christmas. Students study different traditions around the world and then share their family traditions. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can be implemented very well with multiculturalism and culturally responsive pedagogy. UDL promotes education that meets all students’ needs by providing multiple means of representation just like multiculturalism. There is a stressed point of utilizing student choice which can be very beneficial for culturally responsive pedagogy. Using UDL can allow for the proactive implementation of learning experiences that recognize and appreciate cultrua
