Media Literacy Assessment Throughout the course, my understanding of media literacy has undergone a transformation. Initially, I would rate my media literacy as a 5, out of 10. I had a grasp of concepts such as checking sources and spotting fake news but I realized there was so much more to learn in the realm of media literacy. As the course progressed I delved into topics like terms and conditions and FTC regulations. This educational journey made me more aware of my footprint. Shed light on how companies gather information about me. The course made me question the personal effects of the media acknowledging its power in shaping our perceptions and influencing our actions. In the beginning, I would rate each category of media literacy at around 3 or 2. Now my understanding has become more nuanced for each aspect. I have developed an approach to analyzing media messages placing greater importance on fact-checking and recognizing biases. Visual literacy has taught me how to analyze elements and understand their impact on shaping beliefs and perspectives. Improved information literacy allows me to critically evaluate sources for credibility and accuracy which helps me approach information with caution of blindly accepting it. My engagement with news has expanded well helping me distinguish between sources and those with biased viewpoints. The improvement of my literacy has made me more conscious about platforms and my data literacy has enabled me to analyze and evaluate data presented in different forms of media. While all aspects of media literacy are important, information literacy stands out, as particularly relevant as it connects with categories and helps navigate through the immense amount of content available.
After completing this course I've gained insights into the impact of media, on our biases and perceptions. It's been eye-opening to realize how influential the media is in shaping our views. One important lesson I've learned is the need for fact-checking and verifying information before accepting it. In a world where misinformation is rampant, it's crucial to have the skills to distinguish between what's true and what's not. To apply these lessons my goal is to become a consumer of media. Whether it's news, advertisements, or online content I want to approach everything with a dose of skepticism. Additionally, I aim to be more mindful in my business interactions by understanding how my information is used and how it influences my decisions. Throughout this course, my approach to analyzing media messages has evolved. Now I go beyond surface-level information. Carefully consider the credibility of sources biases they may have and the context in which information is presented. This refined approach has greatly benefited me by making me more knowledgeable and fostering my thinking skills. It has completely changed my perception of the media landscape from something to a more intricate understanding. What surprised me the most was how much media influences our biases and shapes our perceptions creating enduring narratives that last for generations. I really appreciate how this course covers aspects of media in a way that explores areas that I may not have otherwise known were important, in the media landscape. It has given me a well-rounded understanding of the world of media. There wasn't anything about the course that I didn't like; it was well-balanced and organized. My favorite Media Journal Entry was number five because it made me realize the impact of bias. The short film had an effect on me, making me reconsider the importance of diversity and different narratives in preventing perceptions
