Social/Emotional Intelligence Table Skill Set #1 Skill Set #2 Scenario Self-Awareness Mindfulness Identifying emotions Recently, my unit has been very busy and staffing has been challenging. It has became very stressful and it is taking a toll on everyone. I have started using mindfulness techniques to work through stressful situations. I will step away and take some deep breaths to clear my head and help me calm down before I return to the floor to tackle the obstacles. Self- Management Stress management Self care Self care is something that I have started practicing in the last two years. Once a month I will go and get a massage or a pedicure. This gives me time away from work and home and a chance to really clear my mind and focus on just me. This also helps me with managing my stress. Interpersonal Communication Verbal communication Active listening In this class I learned that I was getting busy and not truly listening to what others are saying to me. I was working while they were talking and giving them short answers. I have learned to slow down and pay attention. When someone starts talking to me. I will stop what I am doing and look at them. I will give slow nods while they are talking to let them know that I am paying attention to what they are saying. Executive Function Planning and Organizing Creativity On my unit I have volunteered to be the event planner for night shift. I organize baby showers and bridal showers for those having babies and getting
married. I am also the secretary of the shared governance committee. With that I was asked to also do the bulletin boards on the unit or assign someone to do them. I have been organizing that for almost a year now. Social Awareness Appreciation for diversity Responsibility to others This past year I bought and hung up a banner for Kwanza and Black History month. Other holidays were celebrated such as Hannukah but a few of our coworkers celebrate Kwanza and were not feeling like their holiday was appreciated or represented.
