Week 1 Exercise Lab Britta Wise Wilmington University CSC 420 Intro to Artificial Technology Professor MacKenzie January 14, 2024
Week 1 Exercise Lab 1 First coined by John McCarthy in 1956, Artificial Intelligence shortly known as AI, is a form of computer science used to make machines that are intelligent and able to recognize human speech, objects, as well as learn, play and solve problems just like a human. One example of AI is self-driving cars. AI is used in self-driving cars by navigating the roads and making decisions based on the environment around them. There are many goals for the use of AI, but the main goal of Artificial Technology is to simulate human-like intelligence in machines, allowing them to carry out tasks like a human autonomously. With the world of AI growing, the need to fill positions in within the field will continue to grow as well. Some of the jobs that you can hold if you would like to work in AI include Data Engineer, Robotics Engineer, and AI Research Scientist, just to name a few. Data Engineers are responsible for building systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into usable information for data professionals to interpret. Robotics Engineers develop robotic applications used in many industries such as medicine, manufacturing, defense, and automotive by designing and assembling new prototypes for testing. Lastly, AI research scientists work on developing new models and improving existing ones by researching AI techniques and algorithms. The use of AI ranges widely and there are many different examples of AI in action, education, and business. An example of AI in action would be something like a virtual assistant such as Alexa or Siri that uses AI to understand and provide helpful responses to the natural language. Somes examples of AI in Education include intelligent tutoring systems that provide personal guidance, educational data mining and learning that uses AI techniques to analyze, visualize, and collect data about learners, teachers, and learning environments to help improve the learning outcomes. As well as adaptive learning systems that customize the content, pace and feedback for each learner based on their preferences, goals and progress. Lastly, some examples of AI in business include AI powered chat boxes, that allow responses to be provided to customers, and content production where AI helps to create and optimize content for various different purposes. Thinking of the company I currently working for, I think that AI could help improve the company by improving efficiency and productivity. I say this because artificial technology has the capability to automate routine tasks, which in turn would result in employees being able to focus on more complex tasks, leading to increased productivity and efficiency. If I were a robot, I feel that I would want to be a service robot, simply because I find joy in being able to help others.
