Assignment 5 - Your Design Task – Amendment 2
In Assignment 4; you’ve designed, implemented, configured and tested a small/medium network using 3 Cisco routers and 3 Cisco switches as well as 5 PC/workstations. The network is growing at both Montreal and Toronto locations, and approval has been granted to add a server farm at the HQ Ottawa location.
The Director of IT has the following recommendations …
Design Task
The Director of IT has approval to add 2 new Cisco switches, one at each branch location (Montreal and Toronto). These 2 new Cisco Switches will connect to the spare Gigabit Ethernet port 0/0 on their respective router interfaces. Gigabit Ethernet port 0/1 on the new Cisco Switch
will be the up-link to the branch routers. 4 additional IP subnets/VLANs will be added, 2 in Montreal and 2 in Toronto.
An additional Cisco switch will be added at HQ Ottawa location, to support the addition of the DHCP/DNS server (Server Farm) which was approved by Senior Management. To add more good news, Senior Management as also released funding for a new Web server to be installed at Ottawa HQ. It too, will be connected onto the new Cisco switch and will have an IP address of the same subnet as DHCP/DNS server. Details for the HQ Ottawa Headquarters
HQ Ottawa router
-
Configure HQ Ottawa router to support the new Cisco switch using the spare Gigabit Ethernet port 0/0 on the HQ Ottawa router
o
Re-assign the IP address which was on Loopback 99 onto HQ Router Gi 0/0; the LAN subnet for the Server Farm.
-
Add the DHCP/DNS server and Web Server onto the new Cisco switch, port details to follow.
-
Configure the DHCP/DNS server to support the existing IP Subnets/VLANs and configure two additional IP Subnets/VLANs for both Montreal B1 and Toronto B2, further details to
follow for both Montreal and Toronto additional LAN subnets.
-
Prepare and Remove ALL DHCP/DNS configurations on HQ router, our new DHCP/DNS server (PT Server) will perform these services

The transition from the current design/configuration to the new configuration must be seamlessly with minimal downtime. You have been asked to prepare and document a plan for the Director of IT. The plan must include the following:
-
confirmation that the current design is working (test results)
-
what configuration commands will be needed
-
a step by step approach to ensure minimal downtime
-
back-up plan
-
confirmation that the new design is working (test results)
Once approved, please proceed with your implementation plan.
Complete/update the IP Addressing and VLAN Table based on the new design, configurations and testing information from above.
As Network Designers, you will determine your IP addressing and VLAN plan as well as drawing a detail network topology diagram using PowerPoint or Visio. A copy or screenshot of your PT network is NOT permitted as your detail network topology diagram.

Discussion:
The most important part of an information system within a company or business is the reliability of the network and information system - a streamlined network connectivity that is reliable between the point of the input from the employees to the servers that relay and transfer data to the necessary storage locations.
The two types of input devices are manual input and direct input. A keyboard is an example of a device where data is input manually. The user uses the keyboard to input data on to the PC itself. This transfers thought or product into data to be stored or shared from the PC. A direct input device. A manual input device is basically a device that requires a person to do most of the work for data input. A direct input device would be something like a sensor or a barcode scanner. A sensor could even be something like a thermometer on your vehicle. When the vehicle is on, the sensor is always on a monitoring.

Response to assignment 1a
It is mandatory that students should demonstrate how they have incorporated the feedback given in assignment 1a. You may use a tabular form whenever necessary.
Network design and justification
Draw a network design that you think will be useful in the future for the industry that you have visited. Network should include the following requirements:
3 routers
4 switches
10 PCs
4 VLANs.
Suitable IP addressing scheme in tabular form (assume as many hosts as necessary for each department). Use 1906702 to come up with your own IP addressing scheme (to avoid Academic Misconduct). Justify the choice of IP address.
Indicate where do you use static routing, dynamic routing protocols (name the protocols, RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, etc.), Access Control List (ACL) as per the network preferences. Justify your choices.
