1. How were these two calculators accurate and/or inaccurate in providing an estimate of your personal carbon footprint? 2. According to each of the calculators, what is your yearly total of CO 2 emissions?__________________ lbs/year 3. What did you like and/or not like about the calculators? 4. How could you reduce your carbon footprint (any areas for improvement)? 5. What do you think should be done by the Government as well as businesses to reduce CO 2 emissions? I believe that the Cool Climate calculator was more accurate as it asked more specific questions regarding my lifestyle. I think it helped give a more accurate result of predicting what my carbon footprint is. According to the Cool Climate calculator I produce 31 tons (62,000 pounds) of CO 2 each year and according to the Carbon Independent Calculator I generate 13.4 tons (26,800 pounds) per year for a total of 88,800 pounds of CO 2 each year. I liked how each calculator offered advice and ways to reduce your carbon footprint. I found some of the ideas to be obtainable while there were some that just simply were not for me right now. I cannot go through and replace any older appliances with all new energy efficient ones even as much as I would love to. This would be more of an action plan I would be able to incorporate later in life. I can reduce my carbon footprint by using renewable resources by trying to carpool when going places with friends rather than meeting them there. I can also become a smarter shopper and buy fresh vegetables that are not pre-packaged as well as not buying individual prepackaged snacks. As well as using reusable items such as reusable ziploc bags instead of the one time use ones that end up in the trash . I can turn my heat down in the winter. We could install low flow faucets and toilets as well. These are just a few ways that my family and I could reduce our Carbon Footprint. I think the government could help by offering more renewable resources in our community, more public transportation in communities that are considered to be on the smaller scale of population, and help with resources for local farmers to provide to their communicates to help reduce all the grocery store packaging and waste.
